POSITION SUMMARY

The Technical Instructor, Whitespace Infrastructure is responsible for delivering technical training for field technicians, installers, customers, and service partners on Vertiv™ whitespace infrastructure solutions. This includes integrated rack systems, server rack deployment, rack power distribution units, direct current power systems, integrated infrastructure management, monitoring technologies, intelligent rack solutions, and supporting technologies deployed within modern data center white space environments. The instructor delivers hands-on and classroom-based learning focused on installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and best practices associated with data center white space infrastructure. This role develops and maintains technical course materials, lab exercises, and training programs that support Vertiv's growing portfolio of integrated rack, power, and infrastructure solutions while ensuring technicians are prepared to safely support mission-critical environments. The position works closely with Field Operations, Engineering, Product Management, Technical Support, Learning & Development, and New Product Development teams to keep training aligned with customer requirements, product releases, and emerging data center technologies.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Instruct field service safety and technical classes on whitespace infrastructure technologies.
    • Deliver instructor-led and virtual technical training on integrated rack solutions, intelligent rack systems, rack power distribution units, direct current power systems, cabinet and containment solutions, infrastructure monitoring and management systems, server rack integration, and data center white space operations.
    • Prepare classrooms, demonstration environments, and training labs.
    • Deliver classroom and virtual training to technicians, customers, partners, and internal associates with varying levels of experience.
    • Adapt course materials to support virtual and hybrid learning environments.
    • Create realistic field-based training scenarios focused on installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and operational readiness.
    • Modify instructional delivery to accommodate varying experience levels and learning styles.
    • Model and enforce Vertiv safety guidelines at all times.
  1. Drive creation and improvement of technical training content.
    • Support course development through subject matter expertise, product research, technical validation, and content review.
    • Develop and maintain instructor guides, student workbooks, presentations, lab exercises, assessments, and job aids.
    • Create hands-on exercises that simulate real-world deployment and support activities within mission-critical data center environments.
    • Participate in New Product Development activities to support training readiness for new product launches.
    • Perform training needs analyses and identify skill gaps.
  1. Support and maintain training labs and demonstration equipment.
    • Assist in the management and operation of whitespace infrastructure training environments.
    • Configure, install, maintain, and troubleshoot training equipment used in instructional activities.
    • Maintain server racks, rack power distribution units, monitoring platforms, direct current power systems, and associated infrastructure used in training labs.
    • Ensure classroom and laboratory environments remain safe, organized, and operational.
  1. Continuous Improvement:
    • Gather and evaluate feedback from learners, field technicians, technical support teams, and business stakeholders.
    • Continuously improve training based on field experience, customer feedback, and technology advancements.
    • Explore emerging technologies affecting data center white space environments, including high-density 
  1. Administrative Duties and Travel:
    • Complete required administrative activities accurately and on time, including training records, evaluations, expense reports, and travel documentation.
    • Conduct evaluations of training effectiveness and recommend improvements.
    • Support training scheduling and logistics as required.
    • Order and maintain training supplies and materials to support instructional activities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Two-year electrical, electronic, computer systems, information technology, or related technical degree, or equivalent combination of education and field experience.
  2. 5+ years of hands-on experience in installation, commissioning, field service, deployment, or technical support within data center, telecommunications, information technology, or mission-critical environments.
  3. Strong understanding of modern data center infrastructure and white space technologies.
  4. Experience with server rack integration, rack deployment methodologies, and physical infrastructure installation.
  5. Working knowledge of direct current power systems and rack-level power distribution architectures.
  6. Experience with infrastructure monitoring, intelligent devices, and connected equipment management.
  7. Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, installation manuals, network architecture diagrams, and technical documentation.
  8. Knowledge of mission-critical facility operations and data center best practices.
  9. Experience delivering technical training, mentoring, coaching, or knowledge transfer activities preferred.
  10. Knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional best practices, or equivalent military instructor experience.
  11. Strong presentation, facilitation, written communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  12. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, and virtual training platforms.
  13. Positive attitude, adaptability, and willingness to learn emerging technologies.
  14. Data center, power systems, network infrastructure, technical instructor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or National Fire Protection Association 70E certifications preferred.

PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

While performing duties of the above jobs, the associate is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or other components; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear and smell. The associate frequently is required to sit and climb or balance.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Must have ability to regularly lift at least 50 pounds.

TIME TRAVEL REQUIRED

  • 10% travel expected.
