About this role

The Utility Worker is responsible for performing a variety of general labor, cleaning, facility support, and maintenance-related tasks to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment. This position supports daily operations by assisting with custodial duties, material handling, equipment operation, event setup, and other facility-related responsibilities as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform general cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and trash removal.
  • Helping setting up and breaking down events.
  • Maintain restrooms, break rooms, common areas, and workspaces to company cleanliness standards.
  • Assist with floor care activities such as buffing, scrubbing, stripping, and waxing floors.
  • Move furniture, equipment, supplies, and materials as needed.
  • Support facility setup and breakdown for meetings, events, and special projects.
  • Operate cleaning equipment and tools safely and effectively.
  • Assist with inventory management and restocking of cleaning supplies and consumables.
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Respond to urgent facility needs, spills, and special cleaning requests.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors, team members, and customers to ensure service excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous custodial, janitorial, warehouse, facilities, or general labor experience preferred.
  • Experience operating commercial cleaning equipment is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of workplace safety practices.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, and reach throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and use hand tools safely.
  • Ability to work in various indoor and outdoor environments as needed.

Working Conditions:

  • May work in commercial buildings, educational facilities, healthcare environments, industrial facilities, or public venues.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, noise, and varying temperatures.
  • May require evening, overnight, weekend, or holiday work based on operational needs.
