QualificationsSummary Of Role

The Chief Product Officer (CPO) serves as a strategic and operational leader responsible for the end-to-end product lifecycle across the enterprise. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the CPO defines and executes a comprehensive product strategy that drives revenue growth, enhances client experience, and strengthens competitive positioning.
This role ensures that all products—across consumer, commercial, treasury, and digital channels—are aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities, risk appetite, and regulatory expectations. The CPO brings a disciplined, data-driven approach to product development while fostering innovation, speed to market, and operational excellence.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Enterprise Product Strategy & Portfolio Management
Develop and continuously refine a multi-year product strategy aligned with enterprise objectives and financial targets
Lead portfolio prioritization across all product lines, ensuring optimal allocation of capital and resources
Establish product segmentation, lifecycle management standards, and sunset strategies for underperforming offerings
Evaluate build vs. buy vs. partner decisions to accelerate growth and capability expansion
Monitor competitive landscape, fintech disruption, and emerging technologies to inform strategic direction
Oversee the full product lifecycle: ideation, business case development, design, build, launch, optimization, and retirement
Implement scalable product development frameworks (e.g., Agile, stage-gate governance) to drive efficiency and accountability
Ensure disciplined execution against timelines, budgets, and defined success metrics
Partner with Technology leadership to align on architecture, integrations, and platform scalability
Drive consistency and standardization across product development practices
Champion a client-centric culture that delivers a consistent, high-quality experience across all channels
Lead digital product strategy, including online account opening, mobile banking, payments, and treasury platforms
Utilize customer insights, journey mapping, and behavioral analytics to identify opportunities for improvement
Drive innovation pipelines, including pilot programs, partnerships, and new product incubation
Ensure alignment between product capabilities and frontline execution (Retail, Commercial, Private Banking)
Own product-level P&L, including revenue growth, margin expansion, and cost optimization
Establish pricing strategies, fee structures, and product profitability models
Partner with Finance to develop forecasting, budgeting, and performance reporting frameworks
Drive product adoption, cross-sell, and wallet share growth across client segments
Monitor KPIs and take corrective action to address underperformance
Ensure all products comply with applicable regulatory requirements, including consumer protection, fair lending, UDAAP, and data privacy standards
Establish and maintain robust product governance frameworks, including product approval committees and periodic product reviews
Partner closely with Risk, Compliance, Legal, and Audit to proactively identify and mitigate risks
Ensure appropriate controls, documentation, and oversight are embedded throughout the product lifecycle
Support regulatory exams and internal audits related to product management
Serve as a key liaison between Product, Technology, Operations, Risk, Finance, Marketing, and business lines
Ensure alignment between product strategy and frontline teams, including Retail, Commercial, and Treasury
Drive enterprise-wide accountability for product performance and client outcomes
Influence and support strategic initiatives, including M&A integration, vendor partnerships, and platform modernization
Build, lead, and develop a high-performing product organization, including product management, UX/UI, and product analytics
Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations across the product function
Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement
Attract, retain, and develop top talent, including succession planning for critical roles
Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Knowledge & Skills

Experience

Twelve plus years of banking, or financial sales experience

Seven plus years of leading a team

Education/Certifications/Licenses

Bachelor’s Degree in Management Business Management, Finance, Banking or related field.

Interpersonal Skills

A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required to be an effective subject matter expert in the position. In-depth dialogues, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature is a normal part of the day-to-day experience. Communications can involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance.

Physical Requirements

Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.

Working Conditions

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.

Mental and/or Emotional Requirements

Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising the highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
