Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

Educating patients on preventative oral maintenance; takes x-rays; manual manipulation of scalers and root planning; Knowledge of proper maintenance of the ultrasonic and prophylaxis instruments; Knowledge of etiology of dental disease, nutrition and dental hygiene; Assists the dentist during patient schedule overload.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Prepares the patients for dental treatment.
Arranges instrument materials, medications and sharpens instruments as necessary.
Instructs patients on proper dental hygiene maintenance.
Submits supplies requests as needed.
Maintains dental equipment.
Reports patient dental hygiene conditions to the supervising dentist.
Takes appropriate digital X-rays.
Scales (including deep root planning) and polishes teeth.
Follows OSHA guidelines and uses “Universal Precautions” safety rules.
Keeps operatories and the lab neat and aseptic always.

Essential Functions

Able to lift at least 25 pounds.
Able to assist patients in to and out of dental chair.
Able to walk, bend, lift, and remain on feet for extended periods of time.

QualificationsRequirements, Special Skills or Knowledge:

A 2-year certificate or 4-year degree from an accredited college with a dental hygiene degree.
Certified and Registered by the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry.
Anesthesia license.
Nitrous Oxide license.
Experience handling confidential information.
Experience working in a multi-faceted, fast pace environment.
Experience handling stressful situations and difficult patients.

Preferred Requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge:

Bilingual (English/Spanish).
