About this Opportunity:

This is the journey level estimating position responsible for estimating the cost of parts and communicating quotes to Customer Account Managers. The Estimator 2 is capable of creating estimates for the most complex sheet metal parts and electromechanical assemblies, under a minimum of supervision. They are highly capable of the use of the VISUAL MANUFACTURING ERP system and very familiar with service costing. 

Responsibilities

  •  Estimates costs of parts for customers by use of VISUAL MANUFACTURING ERP system or by completion of paper estimating forms.
  •  Obtains quotations for outside services and materials either by direct contact with vendors or by requesting assistance of the Buyers.
  •  Consults with service or material suppliers to clarify requirements and negotiates best pricing available. Generally, consults with the Estimating Supervisor to determine whether service quotes are reasonable prior to using them.
  •  Consults with production staff including supervisors, lead workers, and others as necessary to determine the time required for completing complex or unusual tasks.
  •  Consults computer system to review pricing history and outside service cost history for parts.
  •  Validates all material requirements, notes, specifications and tolerances for availability and feasibility.
  •  Evaluates fabrication based on existing equipment currently installed or on equipment company has on order.
  •  Request DFM as needed from Engineering Department.
  •  Submits quotes to the Estimating Supervisor for review only when warranted by high complexity or sensitive nature of quote.
  •  Uses computer system to generate cost data and determines “actual cost” of completed parts when a re-quote request warrants review.
  •  Communicates quotes to customer account managers using printed quote letters and spreadsheets.

Requirements

  • Requires a minimum of 3 years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, plus demonstrated mastery of the required knowledge and skills. 
  • Requires extensive, demonstrable working knowledge of costs of painting, plating, silk-screening, and other common sheet metal services.
  •  Requires extensive working knowledge of available sources of supply for sheet metal parts and services.
  •  The ability to manipulate numbers accurately and quickly is necessary.
  •  Requires the ability to read and understand blueprints and see the fabrication implications of most details on the sheet metal parts.
  •  Should have very good knowledge of fabrication techniques and methods.
  •  Should be able to communicate well with sales, production, and other staff.
  •  Must be able to recognize when a detail is not understood and to request assistance.
  •  Must have mastery of the VISUAL MANUFACTURING ERP system’s manufacturing, estimating, and Part Maintenance modules.
