POSITION PROFILE
A landscape technician job involves performing hands-on maintenance of the facilities, including planting, mowing, pruning, and irrigation system upkeep. The role also includes operating and repairing equipment, assisting with visitor services, completing basic construction and repair project.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILTIES
- Grounds maintenance: Planting, watering, weeding, mowing, trimming, and mulching trees, shrubs, and flowers.
- Pest and disease control: Applying fertilizers, soil amendments, and pesticides to maintain plant health, as well as managing weeds.
- Irrigation: Installing, repairing, and maintaining irrigation and sprinkler systems.
- Equipment operation and maintenance: Operating motorized equipment for tasks like mowing, trimming, and tilling, as well as performing basic maintenance and repairs on vehicles and equipment.
- Construction and repair: Assisting with and performing basic maintenance, construction, and repair of park facilities and infrastructure, which may include carpentry, masonry, or plumbing.
- Project assistance: Supporting larger projects, which can include assisting with landscape improvement projects and working with volunteer groups.
- Administrative tasks: Helping with record-keeping, identifying maintenance needs, and assisting with park operations and visitor services.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Experience in landscaping, horticulture, or a related field is often required.
- Physical stamina is necessary for performing manual labor outdoors.
- Proficiency with a variety of tools and equipment is essential.
- Knowledge of basic horticulture, plant care, and ground maintenance principles.
- Some positions may require a driver's license and the ability to operate specific types of machinery.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift heavy items (up to 50 pounds or more), walk and stand on uneven terrain for long periods, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
