The Field Service Engineer (FSE) leads the installation, deployment, and ongoing service of UVeye’s automated vehicle inspection systems at customer sites across the United States. As the primary on-site technical authority, the FSE executes installations, guides third-party contractors, troubleshoots technical issues, and ensures deployments meet engineering, safety, and quality standards.
This is a travel-intensive role (up to 90%) requiring frequent travel between customer locations, including dealerships, manufacturing plants, logistics hubs, and other operational environments.
A day in the life and how you’ll make an impact:
- Lead Field Installations: Own and execute on-site system installations, providing direction to contractors and ensuring projects meet engineering specifications, timelines, safety requirements, and quality standards.
- Deploy and Validate Systems: Install, configure, calibrate, and validate UVeye inspection systems across electrical, mechanical, networking, and civil components, ensuring systems are fully operational before customer handoff.
- Troubleshoot Technical Issues: Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, networking, and integration issues in the field, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
- Deliver Maintenance and Service: Perform preventive maintenance and emergency service activities, proactively addressing issues to maximize system uptime and operational continuity.
- Ensure Safe Execution: Maintain compliance with safety standards and operational protocols, identify potential hazards, and enforce safe working practices for employees and contractors on-site.
- Assess Sites and Execute Technical Plans: Review site layouts, engineering drawings, and technical documentation using AutoCAD or similar tools. Identify and escalate discrepancies between planned and actual site conditions.
- Own the On-Site Customer Experience: Serve as the primary technical point of contact during field activities, communicating clearly, managing expectations, and delivering a professional customer experience.
- Collaborate and Document: Maintain accurate installation and service documentation, escalate complex technical issues to Engineering, R&D, and Operations, and provide field insights that support continuous improvement.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience as a Field Engineer or Field Technician in hardware/software installation and deployment
- Proven experience leading teams or contractors during technical installations
- Strong hands-on skills across civil works, networking, electrical wiring, and mechanical assemblies
- Working knowledge of Linux-based systems and basic networking principles
- Demonstrated ability to write installation, service, and maintenance procedures
- Previous experience using AutoCAD or Autodesk to generate and interpret site layouts
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to lead discussions and provide direction clearly
- Customer-first mindset and a high degree of resilience and adaptability under pressure
- Strong safety mindset and ability to enforce compliance at every stage of the job
- Willingness to travel up to 90% across the US
- Valid driver’s license
Ideally, we’re looking for:
- Technical certification or trade school training
- Basic familiarity with Linux systems
- Experience working in customer-facing environments
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
This role is field-based and requires 100% travel across customer locations within the United States. Responsibilities may include: Extended periods of standing, walking, and working on active job sites. Working in and around vehicle service areas, dealerships, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and outdoor environments. Performing physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling equipment up to 50 lbs. Frequent bending, reaching, climbing, and manual handling of tools or components. Working in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, noise, and dust. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, helmets, gloves, and eye protection, as required, The role requires a high level of mobility, physical stamina, and the ability to safely perform hands-on technical work in diverse operational environments.

Compensation:
UVeye provides salary ranges that comply with the New Jersey State Law on salary transparency in job advertisements. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, qualifications, skills, location, education, and operational needs. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentives or other forms of compensation or benefits. The annual base salary range for this position is $32/hr – $38/hr.
