Senior Materials Handling Technician - Receiving/Dock Operations, Galveston Supply Operations
About this role
Minimum Qualifications:
High school or equivalent and two (2) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience relevant to the role may be considered for this position.
Required:
- Valid driver's license.
- Motor Vehicle Safety Course must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- CDL required for Galveston National Lab.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate's Degree.
Job Summary:
Supports all aspects of the UTMB Supply Chain Management Logistics Division. Performs more complex clerical and manual tasks and occasionally takes a tactical lead role in the verification, storage, issuance, and delivery of materials and supplies (medical/surgical & non-medical/surgical).
Job Duties:
- Receive, unload, and inspect incoming shipments. Verify quantities, item descriptions, purchase orders, packing slips, delivery locations, and recipient information before accepting or processing shipments. Open and inspect packages when required to confirm contents and identify shortages, damage, or incorrect items. Document all deliveries accurately and report discrepancies immediately.
- Maintain shipment security and chain of custody while items are on the receiving dock. Release materials only to authorized employees, couriers, or vendors with proper identification and documentation.
- Keep the receiving dock organized, secure, and free of safety hazards. Follow all departmental procedures, safety requirements, and security protocols.
- Ensures accuracy of the inventory within the Materials Management storeroom(s) and/or in unit supply rooms (PAR locations / Point of Use Technology).
- Prepares and assists in cycle count verifications and annual inventory.
- Consistently exhibits a commitment to accomplish the fill rate objective.
- Processes all incoming supplies and equipment and monitors the quality assurance inspections of all items received by ensuring the receipts are checked for missing items, damaged items, expired items, and/or wrong items, and reports all discrepancies.
- Responsible for the proper storage of supplies for stock, adheres to any special handling instructions, and ensures locations and quantity on hand are correct.
- Fills customer request/order for stocked materials and supplies (medical/surgical & non-medical / surgical), ensuring order accuracy.
- Executes the distribution of materials and supplies (medical/surgical & non-medical / surgical), to include, but not limited to, the Point of Use program, to the UTMB System.
- May perform the turn-in of excess, expired, or damaged supplies and equipment.
- Provides customer service support to the department by assisting customers, answering phones, and processing requests.
- Works safely and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
- Keeps current and up to date with all required training and stays current in the field of expertise.
- Works with multiple work teams to meet outcomes beneficial to the customer's needs.
- Develops and maintains effective partnerships with internal and external customers to proactively understand customer needs.
- Operates standard materials handling equipment – this may include forklift operations if assigned to the Warehouse.
- Utilizes email and the Internet for work-related communications.
- As needed, maintains vehicle usage log, inspects condition of tires, checks oil, tops off the fuel once a week, maintains vehicle cleanliness inside and out, and reports any needed maintenance.
- Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Able to effectively communicate (oral and written) with the staff, management, and customers.
- Ability to use a computer, both desktop and handheld.
- Manual dexterity and memory are critical to this function.
- Requires frequent bending, standing, and walking.
Salary Range:
Actual salary commensurate with experience.
Work Schedule:
8 am – 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
