Position Summary

The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Fiscal Services Technician to support the department's financial and administrative operations. This position is responsible for performing account reconciliations, reviewing financial transactions and expenditures, monitoring financial activity and reports, processing payments, invoices, billing, and related fiscal documentation, and assisting with financial compliance and issue resolution. 
The Fiscal Services Technician serves as a key resource for faculty, staff, and external partners by providing timely communication, managing financial inquiries, coordinating with University business offices, and supporting efficient departmental operations. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical, organizational, and customer service skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality in a fast-paced academic environment.

Conditions of Employment
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working within higher education, healthcare, research, or government environments.
  • Familiarity with UNM financial systems and business processes.
  • Experience with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, journal entries, and financial reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of sponsored projects, research accounting, or gift fund administration.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis.
