Summary of Job Duties:

The Skilled Tradesman Electrician works under general supervision installing electrical wiring, fixtures, pulling cable and performing preventive maintenance repairs on campus mechanical and electrical equipment. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.


Qualifications:

Required Education &/or Experience:

  • Completion of required education or training along with the required license or certification in the following skilled trades: Journeyman Electrician according to ACA 17-28-304;
  • Five years of work related experience as an electrician;
  • Must be able to work a flexible shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays;
  • A valid driver's license is required.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to interpret blueprints, electrical drawings/schematics; layout of electrical systems;
  • Install power panels, conduit, wire and wiring devices, underground conduit and wiring systems, lighting fixtures and lighting suspension systems, computer wire and related hardware;
  • Repair lighting fixtures, change light bulbs and ballasts;
  • Troubleshoot and repair motors and control circuits;
  • Install and repair high voltage systems up to 13,800 volts; fire alarm systems; emergency lighting systems; emergency telephone systems;
  • Follow instructions on work orders to perform work as described/requested;
  • Must be able to operator a motorized vehicle;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of the methods, practices, and safety precautions in the electrical skilled trade;
  • Knowledge of safety precautions and standards and state laws governing the electrical skilled trade;
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manuals, schematics, building plans, and/or work drawings;
  • Skill in the use and care of tools and machinery used in one or more of the skilled trades;
  • Must be able to follow instructions;
  • Must be able to negotiate distances on campus (from building to building);
  • Must be able to negotiate stairs in multi-story buildings, including ladders;
  • Must be able to load/unload and carry tools and equipment (weight varying up to 50 lbs);
  • Must be able to use a pipe bender, hacksaw and other tools as necessary to perform duties of an electrician;
  • Must be able to communicate to the campus community and co-workers.
