SUMMARY:

The Music Technology Specialist is responsible for managing the music technology lab (15-station Mac lab), project studios (three audio recording and post-production studios), as well as supervising student employees, managing equipment sign-out, conducting workshops, recording and post-production of concerts, live-streaming concerts, training and supervision of student workers, researching appropriate music technologies, maintaining equipment, supporting Third Practice Music Festival, and other music concert production.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Attention to detail and strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Experience and proficiency in recording including digital audio workstations (Ableton Live, Logic, Pro Tools), recording hardware including consoles, preamps, microphones. Knowledge of appropriate microphone choice and effective microphone placement.
  • Experience in audio post-production including effective and appropriate use of plugins
  • Experience live-streaming audio and video
  • Knowledge of and experience managing Macintosh computers including updating operating systems and installing software.
  • Basic video editing skills and experience
  • Basic knowledge of Dante audio networking
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a service-minded approach to interaction with students, faculty, staff, and departmental visitors
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments amidst frequent interruptions
  • Ability to take initiative on long-term or recurring assignments
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook. Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro or willingness to learn these or other software needed to perform job assignments.
  • Ability to learn to use Workday, Blackboard, and Box
  • Knowledge of and experience with HTML and CSS
  • Ability to manage student workers, equipment sign-out, music labs and classrooms; to conduct ongoing research and develop justifications for equipment proposals; and to develop/teach technology-based workshops on an ongoing basis.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply University and departmental policies and procedures

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • BA or BM in music composition, music technology or other field within the digital/media arts preferred.
  • Prior work experience preferred but not mandatory.

WORK HOURS:

  • Full-time, non exempt position
  • This position is limited term for one year with fulltime benefits (extension possible with approval)
  • Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week; may require evening and weekend work for concert recording and production support

Hourly Grade 4: $18.34 to $30.26
