Project Engineer
About this role
UK Networks Services (UKNS) is an engineering company at
the forefront of the UK’s transition to a smarter, more flexible electricity
system. Our work spans two core areas:
- Technical grid consulting – advising on complex
grid connections, regulatory strategy, and power system planning for some of
the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects.
- Smart grid control systems – designing and
deploying advanced automation, monitoring, and control solutions that enable
customers to connect, manage and optimise energy assets across large,
distributed networks.
- Managing and supporting the
delivery of engineering projects from concept, design and procurement through
to installation, commissioning, energisation and final handover.
- Coordinating project activities
to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with client
requirements, project specifications, industry standards and company
procedures.
- Leading and supporting
commissioning activities, including testing, energisation, client
demonstrations, DNO witness testing and compliance with relevant engineering standards
and recommendations.
- Coordinating multidisciplinary
teams, subcontractors, suppliers, clients, ICPs, DNOs, CPOs and equipment
manufacturers to ensure successful project delivery.
- Preparing, reviewing and ensuring
adherence to job-specific RAMS, CDM requirements and company policies and
procedures.
- Producing and reviewing technical
specifications, drawings, commissioning documentation, project reports,
handover packs and other engineering documentation.
- Preparing technical proposals,
tender submissions and supporting documentation to assist with new business
opportunities.
- Supporting the research,
development and deployment of innovative Smart Technology solutions, including
systems for energy monitoring, load control, generation control and grid
connection compliance.
- Reviewing project requirements,
identifying technical risks, resolving engineering queries and escalating
issues where required.
- Building and maintaining strong
working relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, DNOs, ICPs, CPOs
and other key stakeholders.
- Ensuring projects are delivered
to a high standard of workmanship, technical compliance and customer
satisfaction.
Requirements
- Degree in
Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or related discipline. HNC/HND will also be
considered with strong relevant experience.
- 5+ years’ experience in
electrical distribution, power systems, grid connections or related engineering
environment.
- Experience supporting or managing
multiple engineering projects from design through to installation,
commissioning and handover.
- Strong understanding of electrical
distribution networks, grid connections and associated engineering standards.
- Experience working with
clients, contractors, suppliers and external stakeholders in a project delivery
environment.
- Ability to review technical
information, resolve engineering queries and escalate risks where required.
- Self-motivated, proactive and able to work
effectively without direct supervision.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability
to engage confidently with clients, senior management and stakeholders.
- Ability to structure work effectively, maintain
accurate records and support company certification through good governance and
document control.
- Working knowledge of RAMS and CDM
requirements.
- Full UK
driving licence and willingness to travel for site visits, client meetings
and project delivery activities.
- Experience working in a DNO,
IDNO or ICP background.
- Experience with G100 export
limitation systems and/or DNO compliance.
- Knowledge of smart grid
control systems, energy monitoring, load control, generation controls, PLCs or
automation.
- IOSH Working Safely or Managing Safely.
- Professional Registration is an advantage
(IEng/CEng).
Please note this role will require some business
travel within the UK for client meetings, site visits and the management of on-site
activities, where of course all costs (travel, accommodation subsistence) are
paid.
