Snr Chemical Engineer
About this role
Your mission
You'll own the simulation and process development of our full DAC system — defining what needs to be tested, translating empirical findings into models, and turning those insights into robust scale-up decisions. Your work will lay the foundation for scaling and continuously improving our DAC technology.
A rare opportunity to work at the frontier of climate-tech — with real ownership, real complexity, and real impact.
- Own and develop the simulation suite across the full DAC process
- Create, validate, and continuously improve process models
- Supervise externally commissioned research and studies
- Bridge empirical lab-scale results into scalable engineering designs
Your profile
Skills & Experience- Master’s degree or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in process engineering, with a strong focus on separation technology or gas–liquid systems.
- Demonstrated experience in experimental design, process testing, and data analysis.
- Solid understanding of fluid dynamics, mass transfer, liquid distribution, and water management.
- Experience with AspenPlus, KGTower, or similar simulation tools.
- Familiarity with PFDs, P&IDs, H&MBs, and process safety documentation.
- Thinks in systems and owns outcomes — not just tasks
- Fast learner who quickly grasps complex topics and stays curious about the problem, not just the solution
- Combines scientific rigour with pragmatic, hands-on, build-and-learn instincts
- Authentic, reflective, and self-organised — brings structure without losing speed
- Comfortable with ambiguity and effective at working across cross-functional teams
- Clear and direct communicator with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, with strong active listening skills
- Valid Work Permit for Germany, or able to obtain a permit
- Location: Exiting industrial Co-Working Space in Marzahn where we have our own industrial halls to build
Benefits
- Unique experience contributing to a first-of-a-kind climate-tech project (tFOAK).
- A steep learning curve, exposure to cross-functional challenges, and the ability to shape a project from the ground up.
- Fast-paced, collaborative environment where your decisions have a real impact.
- Competitive compensation and personal growth opportunities.
- Employee stock options
- Learning and development Budget
- Regular team events
- Subsidized BVG ticket
- Laptop and your individual work set up
About us
We are an early startup with a big vision - remove 500 million tons of global CO2 emissions from the air by 2035 through Direct Air Capture, roughly the same weight as all humans on earth combined! To meet our climate targets the reduction of CO2 emissions is not enough, the world actively has to remove billions of tons of CO2 from our atmosphere. To achieve that we at Ucaneo develop an innovative electrochemical Direct Air Capture technology mimicking the human lung to remove CO2 from ambient air.
We are a science and mission-driven team, fast-moving with a break-or-make attitude. Our office and industrial hall is located at Schwarze-Pumpe-Weg 16, 12681 Berlin including a large outdoor area to build one of the largest industrial DAC plants in Germany.
Our commitment to you:
- Impact: You will work on the biggest problem of our time, climate change, with the potential to impact the lives of billions of people
- Day to day: Full responsibility to design your own workstream and control your working hours with a very high degree of freedom, flat hierarchy and teamwork
- Professional growth: Join a disruptive high-growth tech startup from day 1 and grow / lead a high-performing team
Company at a glance
Ucaneo is building the backbone of the carbon economy.
Carbon is one of the world's most important industrial commodities. It is essential for fuels, chemicals, materials, and manufacturing. Today, this carbon comes primarily from fossil resources. Tomorrow, it won't.
As economies decarbonize, traditional sources of carbon disappear while demand for carbon remains. At the same time, demand for durable carbon removal, sustainable fuels, resilient supply chains, and energy security continues to grow. This creates the need for entirely new carbon infrastructure.
Ucaneo is building that infrastructure.
Our electrochemical Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology removes CO₂ directly from ambient air and produces high-purity carbon for permanent storage and the production of sustainable fuels, chemicals, and materials. By combining low energy demand, high CO₂ purity, and renewable energy flexibility, Ucaneo enables carbon removal and sustainable carbon supply at industrial scale.
Founded in Berlin in 2022, Ucaneo is deploying the next generation of industrial carbon removal infrastructure to power the future carbon economy.
