Director of Infrastructure Engineering
About this role
About U.S. Urology Partners
U.S. Urology Partners (USUP) is a leading, private equity-backed multi-specialty urology management services organization operating across six regional markets — Ohio (COUG), Indiana (UoI), New York (AMP), Massachusetts (GBU), Florida (FLURO), and New Jersey (NJU). With a rapidly growing footprint of more than 85 clinic locations and a multi-EMR environment spanning Epic, AthenaOne, ModMed, and others, USUP is executing an aggressive growth and integration strategy that demands world-class infrastructure engineering leadership.
Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, the Director of Infrastructure Engineering is a senior engineering leadership role responsible for the design, build, and architecture of USUP's enterprise infrastructure across all affiliate markets. This leader will translate business and clinical requirements into scalable, secure, and modern infrastructure solutions — owning the technical roadmap and driving delivery from concept through implementation.
This role is squarely focused on engineering and delivery. The ideal candidate is an architect-minded builder who thrives on designing solutions to hard problems, leading technical teams through complex implementations, and establishing the infrastructure foundation that enables USUP's continued growth. Day-to-day operational management is handled by a separate operations function; this leader's mandate is to build what comes next.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Architecture & Roadmap
- Define and own the enterprise infrastructure technology roadmap, translating USUP's clinical, operational, and growth objectives into a multi-year engineering plan.
- Architect scalable, resilient, and secure solutions across network, compute, storage, cloud, and data center domains for a 85+ location, multi-affiliate environment.
- Evaluate and select infrastructure platforms, technologies, and vendors; establish architecture standards and engineering patterns across the enterprise.
- Lead infrastructure design and build for M&A integration and affiliate onboarding workstreams, serving as the primary technical authority from due diligence through go-live.
- Lead infrastructure design and build for clinic openings, closings, upgrades, and relocations — delivering repeatable, standards-based deployment frameworks.
Network & Connectivity Engineering
- Design and build enterprise network architecture across LAN, WAN, and SD-WAN domains, with a current focus on the CATO SASE platform and Meraki switching and wireless.
- Architect connectivity solutions for all clinic and corporate locations, defining standards for internet, cellular, and WiFi infrastructure.
- Lead the engineering design of voice and collaboration infrastructure, including the RingCentral UCaaS platform and migration from legacy telephony systems across affiliate markets.
- Define network segmentation, redundancy, and failover architecture to meet clinical availability requirements.
Cloud & Data Center Engineering
- Architect and build USUP's hybrid cloud environment, with primary focus on Microsoft Azure infrastructure, Entra ID, and integration with on-premises systems.
- Lead data center engineering and migration strategy, including the Expedient co-location environment and ongoing workload migration initiatives.
- Define cloud landing zone architecture, governance guardrails, and infrastructure-as-code standards to support a consistent, scalable build model.
- Design compute, storage, and backup architectures that meet clinical and operational availability, recovery, and compliance requirements.
Security Engineering
- Lead security architecture and engineering across all infrastructure domains, embedding Zero Trust principles, HIPAA/HITECH and PCI requirements into every design.
- Design and build the endpoint security architecture including CrowdStrike EDR deployment and integration with the Arctic Wolf SOC platform.
- Engineer and mature the Entra ID / Active Directory identity architecture, including conditional access policies, privileged identity management, and account lifecycle automation.
- Define Disaster Recovery architecture — designing the technical recovery framework, RTO/RPO targets, and build-out of DR environments across affiliate markets.
Engineering Leadership
- Lead and develop a geographically distributed infrastructure engineering team, including onshore engineers and managed service resources.
- Set technical direction, establish engineering standards, and create a culture of design quality, peer review, and continuous improvement.
- Partner closely with IT operations, clinical informatics, and affiliate IT leadership to align engineering deliverables to business priorities.
- Build compelling business cases for infrastructure investments and present roadmap and architecture decisions to C-suite and board-level audiences.
Financial Management
- Own the infrastructure engineering capital budget, including project-level cost estimation, vendor selection, and spend accountability.
- Partner with the CIO and Finance to prioritize the engineering portfolio and present investment cases for major infrastructure initiatives.
- Drive vendor negotiations and contract structuring for infrastructure platforms, ensuring long-term cost efficiency and strategic flexibility.
Qualifications
Required
- 10+ years of progressive IT infrastructure experience, with at least 4 years leading infrastructure engineering teams through major design and build programs.
- Demonstrated track record architecting and delivering enterprise network infrastructure (LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, wireless) at scale across multiple physical locations.
- Deep hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, Entra ID / Active Directory, and hybrid cloud architecture and build.
- Strong security engineering background, including HIPAA/HITECH and PCI compliance requirements embedded in infrastructure design.
- Experience designing Disaster Recovery architecture including RTO/RPO definition and DR environment build-out.
- Experience designing and building enterprise voice and collaboration infrastructure.
- Proven experience leading infrastructure engineering through M&A integration — from due diligence assessment through technical delivery.
- Strong executive communication skills — able to translate complex architecture decisions into clear business language for C-suite and board audiences.
Preferred
- Experience in a multi-site healthcare or medical group setting, particularly designing infrastructure to support EHR platforms (Epic, AthenaOne, ModMed, or similar).
- Hands-on experience with CATO SASE, Meraki networking, CrowdStrike EDR, Arctic Wolf MDR/SOC, or RingCentral UCaaS.
- Experience operating within a private equity-backed or management services organization (MSO) environment.
- Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, AWS/Azure Solutions Architect, or ITIL.
What Success Looks Like
In the first 90 days, the Director of Infrastructure Engineering will have completed site visits across key affiliate markets, assessed the current-state architecture across network, cloud, voice, and security domains, and identified the highest-priority design gaps and engineering debt requiring remediation.
Within six months, this leader will have delivered a multi-year infrastructure engineering roadmap approved by the CIO, established architecture standards and build frameworks adopted across the enterprise, and driven meaningful progress on at least one major infrastructure program — whether M&A integration, network modernization, or cloud buildout.
At twelve months, USUP will have a modern, scalable infrastructure foundation designed to support aggressive clinical growth, rapid affiliate integration, and a strong and defensible security posture — built by a high-performing engineering team with a clear technical vision and a repeatable delivery model.
