About the role
At Tyro, we’re building digital experiences that make payments and banking feel seamless for Australian businesses. As our Digital Platform Architect- Web & Mobile, you’ll define and own the target architecture for Tyro’s web and mobile channels, shaping the strategic technology direction that enables our digital products to scale securely, consistently and efficiently.
You’ll lead the evolution of our shared digital platform capabilities and establish the engineering "paved road" that empowers teams to deliver high-quality customer experiences with speed and confidence. Working closely with Product, Engineering, Security, Platform and Architecture leaders, you’ll align technology strategy with business priorities, balancing immediate delivery needs with long-term platform investment and architectural evolution.
This is a principal-level technology leadership role for someone who thrives on influencing engineering strategy, driving architectural excellence, and enabling autonomous, high-performing teams through strong technical direction, reusable platform capabilities, and modern engineering practices.
What you'll do
Strategy & Alignment: Partner with business and product leaders to translate customer and channel priorities into an actionable digital technology strategy and roadmap.
Architecture Ownership: Define and evolve Tyro’s target architecture across web, mobile and channel integration patterns, ensuring consistency, scalability and maintainability.
Platform Thinking: Drive reusable cross-channel capabilities including identity integration, feature flagging, analytics instrumentation, notifications and release/versioning strategies.
Paved Road Enablement: Build and maintain shared libraries, templates, reference implementations and developer tooling that make the preferred engineering approach the easiest one to adopt.
Engineering Standards: Support and uplift digital engineering standards across accessibility, observability, resilience, CI/CD, testing strategy, performance budgets and production readiness.
Design Leadership: Lead lightweight architecture and design reviews for major frontend and digital platform initiatives, helping teams make pragmatic, scalable decisions early.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Architecture, Engineering, Platform and Security teams to ensure domain capabilities are exposed through clean, consistent and secure contracts.
Delivery Support: Stay close to implementation by helping teams navigate complex technical challenges, reviewing critical changes and feeding operational learnings back into standards and strategy.
Continuous Improvement: Drive modernisation initiatives, reduce architectural debt and help evolve Tyro’s digital ecosystem to support future growth and innovation.
What you'll bring
Digital Architecture Expertise: Strong experience defining and evolving architecture for modern web and mobile platforms within complex technology environments.
Customer-Centric Thinking: The ability to balance technical excellence with customer experience outcomes, business priorities and delivery pragmatism.
Frontend & Channel Depth: Deep understanding of frontend architecture patterns, BFF/edge architectures, state management, navigation, resilience and secure-by-default design principles.
Platform Mindset: Experience creating reusable engineering capabilities, standards and frameworks that improve consistency, speed and developer experience across teams.
Technical Leadership: Confidence influencing senior stakeholders and guiding engineering teams through architectural decisions, trade-offs and implementation challenges.
Operational Excellence: Strong understanding of observability, testing strategies, CI/CD practices, release management and production readiness in modern engineering environments.
Collaboration Skills: Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
Continuous Improvement Focus: A proactive mindset for modernisation, reducing complexity and embedding scalable engineering practices across an organisation.
Risk & Security Awareness: An appreciation for secure engineering practices, governance expectations and operational risk management within financial services or regulated environments.
