Position Description: Learn and assist with performing tasks involving physical labor and may assist other craft trade workers at construction project sites as assigned and directed.

Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities:

  • Comprehend and follow instructions as directed, project site signage, and tool and equipment manufacturers instructions prior to engaging in work.
  • Perform work tasks and activities as directed and under supervision, including but not limited to:
    • Review and understand jobsite needs with Superintendents and Foreman.
    • Perform physical labor to assist with jobsite clean-up, rough carpentry, site logistics, fencing, deck and platform building, protection systems, and construction waste areas.
    • Operate equipment such as forklifts, backhoe, skid steer, excavator, compactors, and construction hoist.
    • Gather and transport materials.
    • Perform selected demolition.
    • Conduct daily review project perimeter for security and cleanliness.
    • Assist with construction of scaffolding.
    • Perform fire watch duties as needed.
    • May assist other craft trade workers as needed.
  • Assist with project site safety and quality programs and participate daily in Pre-Task Plans.
  • Comply with safety protocols, escalate issues, and communicate clearly in emergency situations.
  • Follow safety expectations for operation of equipment and tools, select appropriate equipment for performing work, and wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protection Equipment).
  • Ensure security of equipment and work areas while conducting operations.
  • Inspect manual and power tools prior to use to ensure safe working condition.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with customers, contractors, suppliers and other employees.
  • Display high level of teamwork, integrity, and commitment in daily activities.
  • Other activities, duties, and responsibilities to assist other craft trade workers as needed or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 6 months of general construction industry experience
  • Basic knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction or repair of buildings or other structures
  • Ability to accurately measure lengths with ruler or tape
  • Ability to take direction, follow instructions, and work with supervision
  • Clear communication skills
  • Ability to apply active listening skills, ask clarifying questions, and follow through on assignments
  • Ability to travel and accommodate night and weekend work as needed
  • Reliable transportation required

Performance requires physical ability to navigate work areas under construction, climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, and climb ladders, along with the following: Constantly: Standing, walking, combined standing/walking, lifting/lowering/carrying weights under 25 lbs., reaching below shoulder height, bending/twisting neck, bending at waist (forward & sideways), balancing pushing/pulling, repetitive motion, hand/wrist flexion extension, and exposures to noise/dust/chemicals. Frequently: Lifting/lowering/carrying weights 25-50 lbs., reaching above shoulder height, squatting, kneeling, climbing, and working on heights. Occasionally: Sitting, crawling, confined space hazards, and lifting/lowering/carrying weights over 50 lbs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and risk of electric shock. The noise in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is required to work in compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
