The Legal Investments Specialist, Securities Litigation is responsible for providing legal research and support work. The incumbent will provide general legal research, assistance, and support; assisting with the internal matter management and electronic invoicing system (Legal Tracker), travel and meeting requests, and other general administrative support as needed; and if requested, providing support to attorneys handling securities class action cases. This position will proactively work with the Legal Services team, IMD staff, and agency employees.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:
Investments Legal and Compliance Support
Performs work as assigned with multiple attorneys and team legal specialist.
Manages numerous deliverable requests requiring coordination with multiple internal and external parties including TRS employees in other divisions and external counsel.
Manages process for non-disclosure agreements and non-reliance letters reviewed by external counsel.
Compiles, enters, and organizes data for periodic reporting purposes.
Prepares, formats, and edits PowerPoint presentations, memoranda, meeting invitations and agendas, assignment logs, minutes, and other team, committee or board reports.
Review policies and procedures, creating processes consistent with such parameters.
Manages the internal matter management and electronic invoicing system (Legal Tracker), including maintaining daily updates on transactional matters and creating bi-weekly and quarterly reports.
Manages travel arrangements and conference registrations via Concur software program if requested.
Assists attorneys in the review and completion of transactional documents, including subscription agreements and nondisclosure agreements.
General Legal Research, Assistance, and Support
Conducts comprehensive legal research on a wide variety of subjects using electronic and paper sources such as online services, statutes, case law, administrative records, opinions, articles, professional journals, dissertations, and abstracts.
Assists in implementing system-wide records retention schedule(s), including annual dispositions (“purges”).
Prepares and delivers abstracts and summaries of research.
Compiles and organizes data and prepares periodic and ad hoc reports.
Assists in developing and revising department procedures and processes as requested.
Securities Litigation Support
Provides support to Investment Attorneys in handling securities class action cases.
Manages securities class actions and other investment-related litigation matters, including preparation of trading reports for loss estimates.
Tracks cases and monitoring deadlines to ensure compliance; coordinating approval requests sent to the Office of the Texas Attorney General.
Communicates with outside counsel, funder and others; organizing and overseeing case files.
Prepares monthly activity reports and quarterly summaries for the Board of Trustees.
Maintaining an accurate database of cases.
Assists counsel with coordination of the responses to service of subpoenas, notices of deposition and other legal documents.
Performs other general support tasks such as management of legal holds, document collection and other discovery projects, and other tasks as needed.

Performs related work as assigned. 

WHAT WILL YOU BRING:
 
Required Education
High School Diploma or GED.
 
Required Experience
Four (4) years of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience as a legal assistant, paralegal or related experience.
An associates degree in a closely related field may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.
 
Required Registration, Certification, or Licensure
None.

Preferred Qualifications
Completion of a program in paralegal studies.
Experience supporting securities class action cases.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:

Has working-level skills and abilities, but is still learning the more complex, methods, techniques and approaches.

Legal research and analysis and drafting pleadings and other legal documents.
Reviewing documentation; interpreting and applying complex laws, regulations, rules, and policies; and making decisions based on sound judgment.
Planning, organizing, and prioritizing work assignments to manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced and changing environment; and completing detailed work with a high degree of accuracy.
Analyzing problems and devising effective solutions.
Completing detailed work with a high degree of accuracy.
Effective verbal and written communication, and the proper use of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Using a computer in a Windows environment with word processing, spreadsheet, database, image files, and other business software to prepare correspondence, spreadsheets, reports, and other documents.
Using e-billing and matter management software.
Ability to:
Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers, agency staff, and external contacts.
Work effectively in a professional team environment.
