What does a great Regional controller, LATAM do?
The core purpose of the regional controller role is to be responsible for the accounting and reporting activities of certain Travelport operating companies, and to understand the accounting, business, and operations, including analysing and explaining P&L and balance sheet variances in detail.
Additionally, this role is responsible to the boards of directors of those entities for the completeness, accuracy and on-time filing of the statutory financial statements, including the activities carried out by our main business process outsource partner (BPO) and our compliance outsource partners within individual countries, as well as supporting local teams and suppliers by resolving any issues.
Responsibilities:
This role has regional responsibility for four operating businesses in Latin America, as well as certain other countries.
- Directing, supporting and monitoring the activities of our local compliance and accounting partners in each country, including contract management and review of local reporting
- Management of month, quarter, and year-end close timetable, ensuring bottlenecks are resolved and escalating issues as appropriate, monitoring the delivery of activities by our outsourced accounting providers, and supporting identification and resolution of any accounting issues
- Ensuring each legal entity’s results properly reflect its business model
- Undertaking the accounting for more complex/ unusual accounting transactions
- Involvement in driving process improvements, improving consistency of practices across legal entities and regions, including improvements to our financial systems
- Final review and approval of indirect tax returns prepared by outsourced partner
- Preparing legal entity reporting packs providing Balance Sheet and P&L analysis and supporting commentary
- Overseeing the external audit process, financial statement filings and other compliance deliverables, ensuring auditors questions are being appropriately answered
- Provide accurate financial accounting information and analysis to other interested parties including decision support, tax, controllership and senior management.
- Oversight and support to other finance teams (including accounts payable, accounts receivable)
What we look for/who would prosper in this role?
You’ll be a quick learner, with keen attention to detail, who is accountable and delivery focused,. All of these combined with the below capabilities are what will make us such a bold and compelling organization.
- Qualified or QBE accountant
- Practical and proven accounting experience in a similar large, complex, multinational organization
- Spanish or Portuguese language skills (written and verbal)
- High level of computer literacy including Excel spreadsheets (pivot tables, Vlookups etc), word processing (Microsoft), and experience with automated accounting systems.
- Exposure to working in Latin America (Mexico or Brasil) advantageous but not required
- Sound commercial awareness
- Able to work autonomously to deliver well-defined outputs
- Excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to work collaboratively with multiple organizations, across time-zones, both inside and outside of Travelport
- Strong team-player, able to demonstrate flexibility, and resilience
- Must be comfortable dealing with change, and have a desire to continually improve processes
