Job Description:

Engineering Manager - SAP Commerce

Digital Solution Delivery | eCommerce Platform Engineering

Role focus: Lead SAP Commerce engineering within a global eCommerce technology organization, balancing people leadership, technical health, delivery accountability, and platform modernization.

WHAT YOU'LL DISCOVER

  • An inclusive culture with strong career growth and development opportunities.
  • A global IT organization collaborating across the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia, and India.
  • A challenging, collaborative, team-based environment where engineering leaders influence customer-facing digital experiences.
  • Opportunity to strengthen a high-volume eCommerce platform used to extend TJX's treasure-hunt experience to digital customers.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Digital Solution Delivery organization at TJX builds and supports customer-driven experiences across eCommerce, mobile, loyalty, in-store digital, and related digital capabilities. The eCommerce team designs, develops, tests, and continuously improves customer-facing web experiences, with SAP Commerce as a key platform capability.

As an Engineering Manager for SAP Commerce, you will lead a team of engineers across varying levels of experience and be accountable for delivery execution, engineering standards, technical health, and talent development. You will partner closely with global product, architecture, QA, platform, operations, and security teams to deliver scalable, secure, reliable, and high-performing digital solutions.

This role requires a strong SAP Commerce background, practical Agile/SAFe experience, and the ability to coach engineers while staying close enough to the technology to guide design, code quality, platform performance, and production readiness.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers, creating clear goals, growth plans, and a strong engineering culture.
  • Own engineering delivery for SAP Commerce backend capabilities, ensuring predictable execution, quality, and alignment to product priorities.
  • Partner with global stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions and clear delivery plans.
  • Provide technical leadership across design reviews, code quality, integration patterns, performance improvements, and non-functional requirements.
  • Drive engineering excellence through CI/CD, automated testing, secure coding practices, Definition of Done, documentation, and release readiness.
  • Improve platform reliability and operational health through monitoring, observability, incident follow-up, and proactive technical debt reduction.
  • Support modernization and continuous improvement of SAP Commerce tooling, frameworks, cloud practices, and development lifecycle processes.
  • Coordinate effectively across geographically distributed teams, including internal teams and supplier/partner teams where applicable.
  • Act as an escalation point for technical delivery risks, production issues, and cross-team dependencies, communicating clearly with both engineers and leadership.
  • Contribute to hiring, onboarding, performance management, and capability building for engineering talent within the product/domain area.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

We are looking for a practical engineering leader who combines SAP Commerce expertise with strong people leadership, delivery ownership, and the ability to improve platform health in a complex global technology environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 14+ years of overall technology experience, including 5+ years in engineering leadership or people management roles.
  • 5+ years of hands-on or lead-level experience with SAP Commerce / SAP Commerce Cloud implementations for high-volume webstores.
  • Strong understanding of backend engineering, APIs, integrations, data flows, caching, performance tuning, and non-functional requirements.
  • Proven experience leading Agile teams; SAFe experience is preferred.
  • Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, release governance, secure coding, and production-readiness practices.
  • Working knowledge of engineering collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket/Git, and modern DevOps toolchains.
  • Strong people leadership skills, including coaching, goal setting, performance management, hiring support, and capability development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to simplify technical topics for varied audiences.
  • Experience working with distributed global teams and/or partner teams across multiple geographies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with SAP Commerce Cloud in a cloud-hosted or cloud-integrated environment.
  • Exposure to Azure, AWS, or OCI-based engineering practices and cloud-native integration patterns.
  • Experience with observability, SLOs, incident management, post-incident reviews, and reliability improvements.
  • Retail, eCommerce, order management, payment, product/catalog, promotions, or customer identity integration experience.
  • Experience introducing engineering standards, reusable patterns, test automation, and platform modernization practices.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

LEADERSHIP ATTRIBUTES

  • Balances technical depth with people leadership; able to guide teams without becoming a bottleneck.
  • Creates clarity in complex delivery environments by simplifying priorities, risks, and decisions.
  • Promotes ownership, accountability, and engineering discipline while maintaining a collaborative team culture.
  • Communicates with confidence and practicality across engineers, product partners, and senior stakeholders.
