POSITION SUMMARY

Thresholds is seeking a licensed Physician (MD or DO) to serve in a contractual, PRN (as-needed) capacity reviewing OBRA medical assessments completed by Registered Nurses. In partnership with Network180 and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), Thresholds conducts OBRA evaluations for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) who are seeking admission to nursing facilities.

The Physician Reviewer provides an independent medical review of completed assessments to help ensure clinical information is accurate, complete, clear, and consistent with applicable OBRA requirements and review expectations. This position does not provide direct medical treatment but serves as a clinical consultant and reviewer supporting the OBRA assessment process.

The Physician Reviewer will collaborate with the OBRA team and maintain professional working relationships with nursing facilities, community partners, and other stakeholders as needed. This is a fully remote position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Current and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Michigan.
  • Knowledge of medical assessment and clinical documentation practices.
  • Ability to review clinical information and apply professional medical judgment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours based on program needs.

Preferred

  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).
  • Experience with nursing facility services, long-term care, behavioral health, or community mental health programs.
  • Experience reviewing clinical documentation, assessments, or utilization review materials.
  • Experience working within interdisciplinary teams.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Maintain professional liability insurance coverage
  • Communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats with agency staff, external providers, nursing facility personnel, and community partners.
  • Maintain attention to detail while reviewing medical records and clinical documentation.
  • Read, interpret, and apply written policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Hear and respond effectively during conversations, virtual meetings, telephone communications, and other work-related interactions.
  • Use computer systems and electronic documentation platforms necessary to perform job responsibilities.
  • Move independently and safely within office and community environments as necessary to perform essential job functions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review assigned OBRA medical assessments completed by Registered Nurses for clinical completeness, accuracy, and consistency with applicable program standards and requirements.
  • Identify missing, incomplete, inconsistent, or unclear medical information and communicate findings to the OBRA Coordinator.
  • Provide independent clinical review and recommendations regarding assessment documentation as appropriate.
  • Document review findings, recommendations, and required follow-up actions in accordance with agency and regulatory standards.
  • Complete reviews within established timelines and communicate questions or concerns in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with members of the OBRA team to support quality and compliance in the assessment process.
  • Maintain professional working relationships with nursing facilities, community partners, Network180, and MDHHS representatives as appropriate.
  • Comply with all policies, procedures, confidentiality requirements, and documentation standards of Thresholds, Network180, and MDHHS.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

POSITION STATUS

This is a remote, PRN (as-needed) position. Assignments will be offered based on program volume and physician availability.

PAY

 $50 per completed OBRA Assessment Review (the review is anticipated to require approximately 15 minutes to complete).
