General Purpose of the Position

The Accounts Payable Analyst I performs analytical activities within the Accounting and Finance organization. The position requires specialized training and the regular exercise of discretion and professional judgment when reviewing financial information and resolving accounting-related matters.

The Analyst applies professional knowledge to review, analyze, and synthesize financial information, identify discrepancies, and develop appropriate conclusions and responses based on business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage complex corporate accounts at a global level in accordance with the categories and service levels established by Thermo Fisher Scientific.
  • Provide customer service by responding to and resolving customer disputes and ad hoc inquiries that require detailed research and analysis. Collaborate with the appropriate stakeholders, escalate inquiries when necessary, provide status updates to leadership, and support the negotiation and resolution of disputes. Educate business partners on best practices to promote compliance across the organization.
  • Support document processing and data management by validating information and performing comprehensive analytical reviews across multiple systems. Calculate and enter transactions that impact financial statements, conduct investigations related to the movement of funds, support contract compliance and verification activities, and review general ledger, financial statement, and transactional system information to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Analyze accounting activity and perform the necessary research to identify the root causes of issues related to customer inquiries or control procedures.
  • Contribute to quality control activities by reviewing documentation for accuracy and compliance with established standards. Communicate quality concerns to the leadership team and identify trends or recurring issues related to data, systems, and processes.
  • Complete assigned work and priorities by effectively applying established policies, available data, and resources. Collaborate with managers, colleagues, customers, and other stakeholders to understand priorities, deadlines, and expectations.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to improve existing processes and ways of working. Demonstrate adaptability and a willingness to learn from change, challenges, and feedback.
  • Comply with company policies, procedures, and standards of ethics and integrity. Support related action plans, promote an open-door environment, and consistently apply these standards when executing assigned processes.
  • Maintain effective communication and engagement with internal and external customers through telephone, email, chat, or other established communication channels.
  • Support internal and external audit processes by maintaining complete and accurate operational controls and documentation and providing requested information in a timely manner.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and continuous improvement within the department and contribute to the development of new strategies and implementation of best practices.
  • Provide support and guidance to team members in researching and resolving process-related questions involving scenarios of moderate complexity.
  • Provide additional support and perform other responsibilities as required based on business needs.

Basic Requirements – Required

  • University technical degree or currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field, and/or the equivalent of a minimum of four years of experience in Accounting or Finance.
  • Experience working in a Shared Services Center environment.
  • English proficiency at a B2+ level.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, with intermediate-level Excel skills.
  • Experience working with banking portals.
  • Experience with at least one of the following ERP systems: SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, and/or Mainframe.
