The Production Designer is responsible for creating CNC-ready designs and tool paths for modular furniture and interior components. The role involves converting design drawings into machine-executable files, optimizing material usage, and ensuring accurate production outputs for CNC machining.
Roles & Responsibilities
Create detailed 2D/3D designs and tool paths using ArtCAM
Convert design drawings (from AutoCAD/SketchUp/other design tools) into CNC-compatible programs
Generate and optimize nesting layouts to minimize material wastage.
Prepare cutting files for CNC routers, including drilling, grooving, and engraving operations
Coordinate with design and production teams to understand project requirements and specifications
Ensure accuracy of dimensions, joinery details, and machining instructions
Select appropriate tooling, cutting speeds, and feeds for different materials (MDF, plywood, laminates, etc.)
Perform simulation checks to avoid errors before sending files to CNC machines
Maintain proper file naming, version control, and documentation of CNC programs
Support production team in troubleshooting machining issues and optimizing output
Ensure compliance with quality standards and production timelines
Requirements
Key Skills &
Competencies
- Strong proficiency in ArtCAM
- Knowledge of CNC machining processes and
tooling
- Understanding of modular furniture
construction and joinery systems
- Experience in nesting optimization and
material planning
- Ability to read and interpret technical
drawings (AutoCAD, etc.)
- Attention to detail and accuracy in design
outputs
- Problem-solving and coordination skills
Qualifications
& Experience
- Diploma / Bachelor’s in Mechanical
Engineering, Production, Interior Design, or related field
- 2–5 years of experience in CAM design or
CNC programming (preferably in modular furniture industry)
- Hands-on experience with CNC routers and
manufacturing processes
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of other software like AutoCAD,
SketchUp, or similar design tools
- Experience working in a modular factory setups
- Understanding of ERP systems for
production workflow
