The Toledo Zoo & Aquarium is currently seeking a Full-time Development Operations Engineer to join the IT Department. This position is responsible to work as part of the Information Technology team in building and maintaining software and infrastructure at The Toledo Zoo. This position will help improve workflows and automations for internal users and guests, designing solutions for internal and outward facing processes, and aiding the Zoo in its mission.


The DevOps Engineer works as part of the Information Technology team to develop, deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot software. This position assists with building, improving and maintaining automated workflows, system integrations, CI/CD processes and connections between internal and external systems. The DevOps Engineer works with IT team members, end users, other Zoo departments, and outside vendors and Zoo affiliates. This position also tests and deploys solutions, maintains technical documentation and operational procedures, researches new technologies and tools, and provides technical support.


This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and may require in excess of forty hours per scheduled workweek occasionally. Reports to the Vice President of Information Technology. 


Minimum Training and Experience:

  • Must be 21+ years of age.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related fields preferred OR equivalent work experience.
  • Basic understanding of databases, web servers, and object oriented programming languages.
  • Familiarity with Python, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL, MS SQL Server, and/or PostgreSQL.
  • Prior experience with Odoo, n8n, DigitalOcean, AWS, NoSQL, Redis, non-profit processes, Blackbaud platforms, and/or Metabase a plus.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development practices, and desires to better their knowledge in their field.
  • Must have a valid drivers’ license and be insurable by the fleet insurance carrier.
