Position Summary
The Salvation Army Jamestown Service Extension Unit advances the mission of “Doing the Most Good” by providing emergency assistance and supportive social services throughout the local community. Through partnerships with community organizations, volunteers, and local agencies, the Service Unit delivers emergency financial assistance, food security initiatives, utility assistance, seasonal programs, referrals, and other services that help individuals and families address immediate needs and work toward greater stability.
The Community Social Services Coordinator serves as the primary social services contact for the Service Extension Unit, providing direct client services, case coordination, resource navigation, and program administration. This position coordinates assigned social service programs, collaborates with community partners, volunteers, Service Unit personnel, and local leadership, and supports outreach and operational activities to ensure services are delivered with compassion, professionalism, and responsible stewardship of resources while advancing the mission of The Salvation Army.

Essential Functions (Approximate time spent)
- Direct Client Services & Case Coordination (40%): Provide emergency assistance, case coordination, and supportive services to individuals and families by assessing needs, determining program eligibility, providing financial assistance, crisis intervention, referrals, advocacy, and follow-up services. Connect participants with Salvation Army programs and appropriate community resources to support identified needs.
- Program Coordination & Administration (30%): Coordinate assigned social service programs, including emergency assistance, food security initiatives, utility assistance programs, seasonal assistance, disaster services, and other community assistance efforts. Maintain accurate participant records, complete required documentation and reports, monitor program requirements, and support program administration through data entry, recordkeeping, purchasing, and other administrative responsibilities.
- Community Partnerships, Volunteer Engagement & Outreach (20%): Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations, volunteers, Service Unit personnel, local leadership, Advisory Councils, and other community partners to support service delivery. Assist with participant outreach and recruitment, seasonal initiatives, community events, volunteer engagement, and activities that further The Salvation Army's mission.
- Operational Support (10%): Support social service operations by assisting with facility operations, coordinating building-related needs with property leadership, processing mail, donations, purchasing, and invoices, supporting seasonal campaigns and special events, and performing other operational or administrative duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, psychology, sociology, or a related field preferred. In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.
- If degree is in social work, must possess any required state licensure.
- Two years of experience in social services, community services, or a related field required.
- Experience providing direct client services, coordinating community resources, and maintaining confidential records preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple priorities preferred.
- Must pass all required background checks, possess a valid driver’s license, and meet The Salvation Army’s Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) requirements.

Working Conditions
- Primarily works in a professional office and community-based environment with frequent interaction with participants, volunteers, and community partners.
- Regular local travel throughout the assigned service area; occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
- Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and computer use.
- Occasionally required to bend, reach, and lift or move up to 50 pounds.
- Position is fully in-person and not eligible for remote or hybrid work.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Driving/Travel Requirements
- Frequent local travel throughout the assigned service area using an agency or personal vehicle.
