Role Purpose

The Materials Technician is responsible for receiving, handling, storing, issuing, and tracking raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods to support manufacturing operations. This role ensures material integrity, traceability, and compliance with ISO quality management system requirements, customer specifications and applicable ITAR regulations.

Scope & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
 • Perform assigned duties in accordance with documented procedures, work instructions, and material handling requirements
 • Receive incoming materials and verify quantities, identification, and documentation against purchase orders and specifications
 • Maintain material traceability, lot control, and status identification throughout the manufacturing process
 • Issue materials to production in accordance with work orders, travelers, and production schedules
 • Handle silicon and germanium materials using approved handling, packaging, and contamination control practices
 • Perform inventory transactions accurately within the ERP/MRP system
 • Conduct all inventory counts and reconciliation activities in accordance with inventory control procedures
 • Identify, label, and segregate nonconforming or suspect materials per established procedures
 • Ensure proper storage, packaging, and protection of materials to prevent damage or contamination
 • Coordinate with Quality, Manufacturing, and Purchasing to resolve material discrepancies
 • Support internal and external audits, including ISO, customer, and regulatory audits
 • Adhere to all quality, safety, information security, and ITAR compliance requirements

• Actively participate in and maintain 5S standards (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) on the production floor to ensure a safe, clean, well-organized work environment that supports efficient daily operations.

Work Experience & Skills

Education:
 High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or associate degree preferred

Experience:
 Minimum 3-5 years of experience in materials handling, inventory control, or logistics within a manufacturing environment; experience with precision materials (silicon/germanium) preferred

Skills / Knowledge:
 • Working knowledge of inventory control, material traceability, and lot control principles
 • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and quality management systems
 • Understanding of ITAR requirements related to material handling and export-controlled items
 • Experience using ERP/MRP systems and barcode or inventory tracking systems
 • Ability to read work orders, travelers, and basic engineering documentation
 • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office or equivalent)

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements (if applicable)

• Work environment includes warehouse, stockroom, manufacturing floor, and possible cleanroom areas
 • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift materials up to 50 lbs in accordance with safety requirements
 • Ability to handle small, delicate, and precision materials using appropriate handling techniques
 • Use of PPE may be required depending on work area
