About this role
Position Overview
The Production Head for the Refurbishment Unit will be
responsible for leading and managing the entire production process, ensuring
the efficient refurbishment of pre-owned two-wheelers in accordance with
quality standards and timelines. This role requires a hands-on leader with a
strong background in production management, quality control, and team
leadership — someone who can track plan vs. actual performance, proactively
identify bottlenecks and floor-level problems, assess and build manpower
capability, and work alongside the Workshop Manager to keep attrition under
control.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Planning
- Develop
and implement production schedules to meet refurbishment targets.
- Track
plan vs. actual production on a regular (daily/weekly) basis and drive
corrective action to close gaps.
- Collaborate
with other departments to ensure seamless coordination of resources.
2. Quality Control
- Establish
and enforce quality control standards for the refurbishment process.
- Implement
rigorous inspection processes to ensure the highest quality of refurbished
products.
3. Team Leadership
- Lead,
mentor, and motivate a team of technicians, and support staff.
- Foster a
culture of continuous improvement and accountability within the production
team.
- Assess
manpower ability and skill levels on an ongoing basis; identify capability gaps
and high performers.
- Work
closely with the Workshop Manager to monitor and manage attrition on the shop
floor, including retention and engagement initiatives.
4. Operational Efficiency
- Identify
and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce turnaround
time.
- Monitor
and analyse key performance indicators to optimize production processes.
- Proactively
walk the production floor to identify bottlenecks and operational problems
before they impact output.
- Diagnose
root causes of recurring floor issues (delays, rework, part shortages, workflow
gaps) and implement fixes.
5. Inventory Management
- Oversee
inventory levels of spare parts and materials required for refurbishment.
- Coordinate
with procurement to ensure timely availability of the required components.
6. Health and Safety Compliance
- Ensure
strict adherence to safety protocols and regulations within the refurbishment
unit.
- Conduct
regular safety audits and implement corrective actions as needed.
7. Training and Development:
- Identify
training needs and opportunities for skill development within the production
team.
- Conduct
training sessions to enhance the technical capabilities of team members.
Requirements
Required Skills
- Bachelor's
degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Proven
minimum 13 - 18 years of experience in production management, preferably in the
automotive or refurbishment industry.
- Ability
to track plan vs. actual production data and drive corrective action on gaps.
- Proven
ability to identify bottlenecks and resolve floor-level production problems
firsthand.
- Experience
in manpower capability/ability assessment and structured training delivery.
- Strong
leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and manage a
diverse team.
- In-depth
knowledge of quality control processes and production efficiency.
- Excellent
problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to overcoming challenges.
- Familiarity
with health and safety regulations in a production environment.
- Strong
organizational and communication skills.
