Position Overview

The Production Head for the Refurbishment Unit will be responsible for leading and managing the entire production process, ensuring the efficient refurbishment of pre-owned two-wheelers in accordance with quality standards and timelines. This role requires a hands-on leader with a strong background in production management, quality control, and team leadership — someone who can track plan vs. actual performance, proactively identify bottlenecks and floor-level problems, assess and build manpower capability, and work alongside the Workshop Manager to keep attrition under control.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production Planning

  • Develop and implement production schedules to meet refurbishment targets.
  • Track plan vs. actual production on a regular (daily/weekly) basis and drive corrective action to close gaps.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless coordination of resources.

2. Quality Control

  • Establish and enforce quality control standards for the refurbishment process.
  • Implement rigorous inspection processes to ensure the highest quality of refurbished products.

3. Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of technicians, and support staff.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability within the production team.
  • Assess manpower ability and skill levels on an ongoing basis; identify capability gaps and high performers.
  • Work closely with the Workshop Manager to monitor and manage attrition on the shop floor, including retention and engagement initiatives.

4. Operational Efficiency

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce turnaround time.
  • Monitor and analyse key performance indicators to optimize production processes.
  • Proactively walk the production floor to identify bottlenecks and operational problems before they impact output.
  • Diagnose root causes of recurring floor issues (delays, rework, part shortages, workflow gaps) and implement fixes.

5. Inventory Management

  • Oversee inventory levels of spare parts and materials required for refurbishment.
  • Coordinate with procurement to ensure timely availability of the required components.

6. Health and Safety Compliance

  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and regulations within the refurbishment unit.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective actions as needed.

7. Training and Development:

  • Identify training needs and opportunities for skill development within the production team.
  • Conduct training sessions to enhance the technical capabilities of team members.

Requirements

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Proven minimum 13 - 18 years of experience in production management, preferably in the automotive or refurbishment industry.
  • Ability to track plan vs. actual production data and drive corrective action on gaps.
  • Proven ability to identify bottlenecks and resolve floor-level production problems firsthand.
  • Experience in manpower capability/ability assessment and structured training delivery.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.
  • In-depth knowledge of quality control processes and production efficiency.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to overcoming challenges.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations in a production environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
