Mechanical Engineer - 100%

Zürich · On-site

About this role

Tethys Robotics develops innovative robotic solutions for subsea inspection & investigation operations in challenging conditions. We serve governmental organizations, large asset operators and industrial service providers operating in high-demand and mission-critical environments.

As an ETH Zürich spin-off, we are a fast-growing pioneer in underwater robotics, rooted in Switzerland. As we scale from individual systems towards the production and delivery of multiple robots in parallel, we are looking for a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to help develop, industrialize and continuously improve our robotic platforms.

Tasks

You will take ownership of mechanical systems and hardware modules across the complete product lifecycle: From concept and CAD design to production, testing and field use.

Your Contribution

  • Design and engineer mechanical systems, assemblies and hardware modules for our underwater robots

  • Continuously improve existing designs for robustness, usability, manufacturability and serviceability

  • Develop production-ready designs, drawings and assembly documentation

  • Support manufacturing, assembly, testing and preparation of robotic systems for delivery

  • Integrate new sensors, payloads and mechanical components

  • Design and conduct validation tests and critically assess results

  • Troubleshoot hardware issues and support maintenance and repairs

  • Work closely with electrical, software and production teams on system-level solutions

  • Contribute to the development of future generations of Tethys robotic platforms

This is a highly hands-on role: you should enjoy turning designs into physical products: From CAD and prototyping to assembly, integration and refinement.

Requirements

  • BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics or a related field

  • Strong experience with 3D CAD and mechanical product development

  • Hands-on engineering experience in prototyping, assembly, validation and testing

  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, additive manufacturing and mechanical assembly

  • Ability to design robust components and assemblies for demanding real-world environments

  • At least 1–2 years of relevant industrial experience in hardware or product development

  • Independent, structured and pragmatic way of working

  • Comfortable taking ownership from initial concept to tested and manufacturable solution

  • Strong team player who enjoys working across engineering disciplines in a fast-moving startup environment

  • Fluent professional English

Bonus points if you bring:

  • Onshape experience

  • PLM/PDM experience

  • FEA and structural analysis

  • Experience with robotics, maritime systems or other highly integrated electromechanical products

Benefits

  • A key engineering role in one of Europe’s most ambitious underwater robotics startups

  • Significant ownership over the mechanical design of our robotic systems

  • The opportunity to shape both current products and future platform generations

  • A direct role in scaling a complex robotic product towards repeatable multi-unit production

  • A dynamic, high-performance team with a strong builder mentality and flat hierarchies

  • Hands-on involvement across development, production and field testing

  • Real ownership, fast decision-making and the opportunity to grow your responsibilities as the company scales

  • A competitive compensation package

  • A modern robotics development and production environment in the Zurich area
