About this role
Performs general clerical duties on a nursing unit by preparing, compiling, and maintaining records in a hospital nursing unit. Integral part of the nursing team that acts as receptionist, performs clerical and secretarial duties, and is a liaison between patients, visitors, physicians, ancillary departments, and nursing staff. Bartlett Unit Secretaries may act as Nurse Assistant and must have the required certifications necessary for their department.
Responsibilities
- Perform general clerical duties on the nursing unit, including preparing, organizing, and maintaining patient records, charts, and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Serve as the primary point of contact and receptionist for the unit, greeting patients and visitors, answering phone calls, and directing inquiries appropriately.
- Coordinate communication among patients, visitors, physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary departments to support efficient patient care and unit operations.
- Provide administrative and secretarial support to the nursing team, including scheduling, data entry, and managing unit correspondence and reports.
- Assist with basic patient care tasks as needed (when certified), functioning as a Nurse Assistant and supporting clinical staff in delivering quality care.

Qualifications
- Required:
- Education: High School Graduate or GED
- Experience: Must be familiar with medical terminology, and have experience with the use of a computer
- Licensure/Certification:
- CPR is required for all Unit Secretaries
- Bartlett Unit Secretaries in the Emergency Dept. and Float Pool must also have CPI
- Memphis Behavioral Health Unit Secretaries must also have CPI
- Preferred:
- Experience: Previous experience as a Unit Secretary preferred.
