SPECIFIC TERM - 5 YEARS
YOUR ROLE
Reporting to the National Feature Film Executive, English market, the incumbent plays a key role in helping to achieve Telefilm’s vision.
Regional Feature Film Executive responsibilities:
- Renders financing decisions (made within Telefilm’s financial and reporting guidelines) for English-language feature films from the Atlantic region that will:
- Represent a distinctly regional point of view;
- Encourage and build diversity of talent;
- Achieve balanced and representative portfolio for the low budget/regional streams.
- Leads the implementation of Telefilm’s 2024-2027 Atlantic Strategy and plays a key role in delivering on its strategic priorities.
- Works with National Director and Regional Directors in Ontario, Quebec and the Western region to collaborate in developing effective strategies, business intelligence and reporting.
- Manages the regional budget and the commitment of funds in a timely manner and upholds the client charter.
- Represent the organization at industry events in the Atlantic provinces.
- Assumes the role of point person for Atlantic client-applicants on all project-specific matters.
- Builds and strengthens relations with active partners and contributors.
- Provides content analysis across all programs and regions, as needed.
Content Analyst responsibilities:
- Evaluate the creative content of projects applying for production funding within a complex, dynamic and ever-changing creative environment, while providing feedback and content notes to decision-makers on the creative elements of the project for which funding has been requested;
- View the applicant's previous films and evaluate the track record of producers, writers and directors;
- Participate in the management of external readers' committees: select members; train and support them in the jury process; lead deliberation days;
- Collaborate on the development of guiding principles and participate in other special projects involving content analysis and creative issues. The incumbent will also be called upon to assume project management responsibilities;
- Assist the team in leveraging industry knowledge by watching films and constantly updating market knowledge;
- Represent Telefilm at meetings, conferences and other external events, as assigned or approved by Telefilm, with the goal of encouraging members of racialized and under-represented communities to develop their networks and relationships.
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or any other related discipline or combination of equivalent and relevant experience.
- A minimum of five (5) years' experience in a similar role, or in a role related to film & television;
- Comprehensive knowledge of the feature film industry, with knowledge and experience specific to the Atlantic Canada region;
- Ability to evaluate the creative and audience potential of projects at the script stage through development production and distribution/marketing;
- Ability to think and communicate strategically;
- Knowledge of trends, priorities, issues, developments, and distribution methods and practices, and financial aspects relating to the commercial life of feature films both at the national and international level;
- Ability to exert leadership of influence and drive results with cross-functional teams;
- Skilled in client and relationship management;
- Proven negotiation, communication, organizational and planning skills;
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
