Job Description

  • Work as a member of the Real Estate Property Brokerage team, a part of the Investment Banking Real Estate Group in Toronto, Ontario
  • Work under the overall direction of the Managing Director in a group of experienced professionals as they generate ideas, advise clients, pitch for business, underwrite single asset and portfolio transactions, market product and execute transactions
  • Assist in the execution of a large array of real estate property brokerage and M&A transactions within the real estate industry, including but not limited to retail, office, industrial, multi-residential and development assets

How You Will Contribute

  • Assist with detailed financial underwriting of real estate assets for purposes of disposition, acquisition or corporate M&A activity
  • Create financial models utilizing Argus software and Excel to assist in the valuation of income producing properties and development lands. Financial analysis includes discounted cash flow analysis, precedent transaction analysis, real estate development modeling and other industry metrics as required
  • Compose pitch presentations, confidential investment memorandums and other marketing materials
  • Review and prepare summary briefs of documents such as leases, structural and environmental reports
  • Research and analyze industry and market data
  • Collect real estate market information and maintain research databases
  • Interact with clients in the execution of property brokerage and investment banking mandates
  • Perform various tasks supporting senior team members in their deal execution and client coverage efforts

Job Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field, preferably in real estate, finance, economics, mathematics or engineering
  • Minimum 1 to 3 years of direct real estate underwriting experience in one or more of the following fields:
    • Real Estate Investments
    • Property Brokerage
    • Appraisal
    • Real Estate Investment Banking
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with discounted cash flow and sensitivity analysis, as well as development modeling strongly preferred
  • Experience with Argus software strongly preferred
  • Applicant should be proactive, highly motivated, well-organized, detail oriented and able to work under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Applicant is a strong team player, able to contribute to a high-performance team while also working independently
  • Applicant should have strong verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills
