Te Tūranga - The Role
Join our Terminals Engineering team this summer and work on a project aimed at giving customers greater control over their radio's microphone and speaker audio characteristics. You'll help design and implement configurable graphic equalisers within our desktop configuration application, allowing users to adjust audio frequency response in a flexible and intuitive way.
This project offers exposure to a range of disciplines, including desktop application development, digital signal processing (DSP), embedded systems, and user interface design. You'll create and refine GUI concepts for the equaliser functionality, investigate methods for converting EQ curves into digital filter coefficients, and explore how those coefficients can be programmed into and implemented within the radio's firmware.
You'll primarily work with our C# desktop configuration application while also gaining experience interfacing with C/C++ embedded DSP firmware and Python-based DSP simulations. This is a unique opportunity to apply your technical skills to a real-world product, collaborate with experienced engineers, and contribute to features that could be incorporated into future Tait products.

This opportunity is ideal for a curious and motivated student with an interest in audio technology, software development, and embedded systems.
You may be studying Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, and be excited by the opportunity to work across desktop applications, signal processing, and embedded firmware. We’re looking for someone who has:
An interest in or exposure to signal processing, particularly audio applications.
Experience with C# desktop application development.
An interest in designing intuitive user interfaces and considering the user experience.
Familiarity with C or C++ programming.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
The ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative engineering team.
Strong communication skills and the ability to share ideas and technical findings clearly.
Experience with embedded hardware, radio systems, audio equipment, or digital signal processing would be advantageous, but it's not essential. Most importantly, you're eager to learn, enjoy tackling technical challenges, and are excited to gain hands-on experience working on products used in critical communications environments around the world.
