Position Summary: |
The Senior Principal Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for assessing, defining, and implementing Swagelok electronic design and architecture standards and leading product design/definition of new and existing products. This person is a thought-leader in software and electronics design, and responsible for gathering requirements, generating specifications, and ensuring that new solutions meet process and performance requirements. A broad knowledge of system architecture, software architecture, software/firmware development, embedded systems, and hardware architecture is required. This person is an informal leader responsible for mentoring team members and verifying their work on complex engineering projects.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: |

- Applies Engineering Principles and design practices to ensure product meets internal and industry standards.
- Key contributor to the development of the corporate software and electrical product design methodology.
- Understands software and hardware development cost implications and performs budgetary cost analysis of concepts to be developed by internal and external resources.
- Develops detailed system requirements for quote and development by 3rd party vendors or internal development.
- Manage 3rd party hardware and software development vendor technical relationships.
- Plans and leads sprint-based development with internal and external resources. (Agile Project Management)
- Understands and translates the needs of customer requirements and application needs into documentation of system requirements, including hardware design, component specification, hardware layout, firmware/software architecture. Leads test design, system evaluation and acceptance testing.
- Deliver technical documentation and presentations. Ensure “as-built” changes are effectively documented through the change management system.
- Coordinate electrical design team work (hardware and software) with mechanical design activities to achieve a final product that meets customer requirements.
- Apply engineering theory, practices, and principles to perform failure analysis to determine root cause of failures and conduct performance evaluations.
- Collaborate with operators, manufacturing engineers, production supervisors, engineering technicians, and maintenance technicians as needed.
- Provide guidance and assist in development of Swagelok capabilities in design of electronics and electronic products using internal and external resources. Mentor less-experienced peers and team members.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: |

Required:
- BS degree in Engineering
- Appropriate continuous education
- 10+ years of experience in system architecture, software architecture, hardware architecture, or similar field
- Excellent oral and written communication
- Excellent computer and typical office software skills
Preferred:
- Degree in Electrical, Computer, Software, or similar engineering field
- Embedded System Design Experience
- System Architecture Experience
- Agile Project Management Experience
