Are you a recent graduate ready to build a career where customer relationships, commercial thinking and analytical skills come together?
Join our Auckland team as a Sales & Underwriting Consultant and build your insurance career from the ground up.
This is more than a first job. You’ll gain hands-on experience supporting customers and brokers while developing your understanding of insurance, risk and underwriting. Through structured training and on-the-job learning, you’ll build the skills, confidence and judgement needed to take your career further.
This role is set to start in January 2027.
What you’ll do
You’ll be a key point of contact for customers and brokers across New Zealand, supporting them by phone and email. As you develop your knowledge and confidence, you’ll learn to:
- Help customers with quotes, policy changes, renewals and general enquiries
- Provide timely, professional and empathetic customer service
- Understand customer and broker needs and identify appropriate solutions
- Build strong relationships with customers and brokers
- Manage customer complaints in line with the Suncorp NZ framework
- Develop your understanding of insurance products, risk and underwriting
- Assess information and apply your judgement when making decisions
- Balance customer needs with commercial and risk considerations
- Build the skills and confidence to progress your career in insurance
You’ll be supported as you learn, while being encouraged to think critically, make decisions and take ownership as your capability grows.
Training and flexibility
You’ll receive comprehensive training across customer service, sales and underwriting, including how to assess risk and provide insurance solutions for homes, contents and vehicles.
- 4 weeks of fully paid, in-office training
- 37.5 hours per week across a 6-day window covering Monday to Saturday
- Rosters published one month in advance, so you can plan life outside of work
- Ongoing learning and development through our Underwriting Academy
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for graduates with curiosity, strong potential and the ability to learn, think critically and apply new information.
- Currently completing, or recently completed, a Bachelor’s degree from an Australian or New Zealand university
- Genuine interest in building a career in insurance
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Customer-focused mindset and strong attention to detail
- Resilience, adaptability and a growth mindset
- Ability to collaborate, take ownership and contribute to a team
