We are seeking a skilled and motivated Contact Engineer to provide technical support for plant operations, process optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives. In this role, you will apply your engineering expertise to support process changes, troubleshoot operational issues, conduct technical studies, and maintain critical process documentation. The ideal candidate brings strong operating plant experience, sound technical judgment, and a collaborative approach to improving safety, reliability, and overall plant performance.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering
Registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGA is a requirement, or eligible to obtain registration with APEGA, EGBC, and APEGS
5-7 years of experience in an operating plant environment, preferably in refinery, pipeline, distribution, or thermal heavy oil operations
Experience facilitating risk assessments and hazard and operability studies (HAZOP) is an asset
Familiarity with P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and other process-related documentation.
Knowledge of fluid hydraulic calculations; experience with HYSYS and computer-based hydraulic modeling packages is an asset
Knowledge of business drivers for thermal heavy oil operations, including fired heaters, oil separation, and water treatment equipment, is an asset

Responsibilities:
Support expense projects and process changes, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), and help ensure operational targets are achieved through timely corrective actions and follow-up
Conduct technical investigations and root cause analyses and provide recommendations to restore normal plant operation following upsets
Perform studies, define problems, and complete calculations to support plant optimization and improve process performance
Develop tools to enhance process and equipment monitoring, performance tracking, and projections
Perform calculations related to process conditions, production losses, emissions, spills, and chemical requirements
Compare current plant operating conditions with design conditions and identify gaps or improvement opportunities
Provide technical support for regulatory reporting, operating procedure reviews, management of change (MOC) execution, risk reviews, bottleneck identification
Maintain and develop key process engineering documents and tools, including P&IDs, specifications, operating targets, safe operating limits, and heat and material balances
Accountable for supporting locations across BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan
Location and other Key details:
The position will be based at the Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Center at 150 – 6th Ave S.W
Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
Travel is expected once a week per month or as needed
A valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record
