The Role


Stratus recently partnered with PVEDI and is seeking an Environmental Scientist I to join the team. The Scientist works independently on a wide range of projects and is responsible for full-cycle environmental site assessments, sample collection, engineering design, data analysis, and detailed report writing and preparation. This Scientist position is on a development track toward project managementThe successful candidate will be pro-active in building skills in client communication, budgeting, scheduling, and task coordination, with the goal of transitioning into a project manager role.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts environmental assessments and field work including, but not limited to, Phase I and Phase II ESAs, Underground Storage Tank (UST) investigations, PADEP Act II NYS and NYC Brownfield Program Site site investigations and remediation, and Oil & Gas investigations and remediation

  • Management and interpretation of environmental monitoring data to assess analytical trends and identify exceedances

  • Supervision and documentation of field activities including, but not limited to, soil borings, monitoring well installations, remediation, and sample collection

  • Prepare work plans and reports detailing procedure, results, conclusions, and recommendations

  • Work directly with project managers on task management

  • Travel to local project sites, with occasional overnight stays

Qualifications


Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geology, engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in the environmental consulting field with focus on environmental assessment and due diligence, sampling, data collection and evaluation, and technical writing
  • Strong working knowledge of methodologies and procedures associated with due diligence, soil/groundwater investigations, remediation, environmental engineering, compliance/permitting
  • Strong technical writing skills for well documented findings, high-quality report preparation, and the development of regulatory submittals
  • Clear, organized communication of technical information to both internal teams and external clients is essential
  • Strong administrative and organizational abilities to manage project documentation, maintain accurate records, track milestones and deadlines, and support data management and reporting efforts
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to manage multiple projects/on-going projects

Preferred

  • Working knowledge of NYS Brownfield Program and NYC OER Voluntary Cleanup and E-Designation Programs
  • OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour training and current 8-hour refresher
  • ArcGIS skills and experience a plus
