Position Title

Substation Design Engineer (Civil)

Position Summary

This position is responsible for the design, development, review, and delivery of civil and structural engineering works for EHV Power Cable Systems, Transmission Substations, GIS/AIS Substations, and associated infrastructure projects. The role will ensure that all civil engineering deliverables comply with project specifications, applicable codes and standards, client requirements, safety requirements, and project schedules.

The incumbent will work closely with Electrical Design, Project Management, Procurement, Construction, and Site Teams to support successful execution of EPC projects from concept design through commissioning and project close-out.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities

1. Civil Design & Engineering

  • Prepare civil and structural designs for Power Cable, Transmission, Distribution, and Substation projects.
  • Design foundations, control/GIS buildings, cable trenches, RCC ducts, culverts, drainage systems, roads, boundary walls, and steel support structures.
  • Develop underground cable route infrastructure including joint bays, HDD/thrust boring crossings, and utility crossings.
  • Perform RCC and steel structural analysis, foundation design, earthwork calculations, and grading plans.
  • Ensure compliance with IS Codes, BIS, IEC, CEA guidelines, utility standards, and client specifications.

2. Engineering Deliverables

  • Prepare and review GA drawings, civil layouts, foundation and structural drawings, reinforcement details, trench layouts, road/drainage drawings, and as-built drawings.
  • Develop technical specifications, BOQs, MTOs, engineering calculations, and design reports.
  • Maintain document control and engineering records.

3. Design & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, construction, survey, and geotechnical teams to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Participate in design reviews, resolve engineering clashes, and ensure compatibility with equipment layouts and cable routing.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, vendors, and contractors for technical discussions, approvals, and bid evaluations.

4. Site Engineering Support

  • Provide engineering support during construction, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Review site conditions, resolve design-related issues, approve field modifications, and conduct site inspections.

5. Quality, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Conduct design reviews and technical verifications to ensure quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Support audits, quality plans, constructability reviews, value engineering, and risk mitigation initiatives.

6. Project Planning

  • Deliver engineering outputs within project schedules.
  • Monitor design progress, identify potential delays, and support cost optimization and constructability improvements.

Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (Mandatory).
  • Master's Degree in Civil / Structural Engineering (Preferred)

Experience:

  • 7–10 years of relevant experience in civil and structural design of EPC infrastructure projects.
