Job Description

The Project Engineer Grid supports the development, construction, and optimization of renewable projects in Peru, with emphasis on high-voltage substations, transmission lines, and connection infrastructure.

The position drives grid integration from development to commissioning, engaging with COES, transmission companies, utilities, regulators, and relevant stakeholders on connection procedures, technical studies, compliance, approvals, agreements, and operational requirements.

It also manages grid engineering contracts and multidisciplinary interfaces across, electrical, control, and interconnection scopes, helping ensure continuity and readiness for execution.

The role helps secure a compliant, reliable, and execution-ready renewable portfolio in Peru.

  • Lead the engineering phase of renewable projects, overseeing technical assessments related to grid infrastructure design, planning, cost estimation, procurement, environmental permitting, stakeholder engagement, risk management, and internal approvals.
  • Evaluate grid infrastructure feasibility, constructability, risk assessment, and CAPEX estimates during early project phases.
  • Serve as the technical lead for the grid infrastructure scope during the procurement phase, including defining specifications and requirements, evaluating technical proposals, and supporting contract negotiations.
  • Prepare and quality assure technical specifications in grid infrastructure tenders.
  • Prepare and ensure the quality of technical documentation for high-voltage electrical components and systems for purchase orders, and follow up the procurement process.
  • Oversee grid elements and works of project contracts, ensuring technical quality and compliance with specifications during execution.
  • Manages the preparation, review, and approval of Pre-Operational Studies (EPO) and Operational Studies (EO), as well as commissioning tests and technical requirements, ensuring the timely achievement of Commercial Operation Date (COD).
  • Conducts power system studies to assess grid availability and identify opportunities for integrating new renewable generation capacity..
  • Manage technical interfaces between contractors.
  • Support technical due diligence processes.
  • Attend, supervise, and witness factory inspections and acceptance tests.
  • Supervise third-party engineers and external design services as required.
  • Plan, lead, and document project design reviews, ensuring technical consistency with economic, scheduling, and regulatory objectives.
  • Conduct technical analysis during design and construction to identify non-conformities and recommend solutions for design or technical issues.

Qualifications

Education:

  • University degree in Electrical Engineering

Experience:

  • Experience with medium and high voltage grid connections, including overhead transmission lines and substations.
  • Proven track record of handling grid and high-voltage infrastructure.
  • At least 8 years of hands-on experience in both the design and building of grid connections.

Technical knowledge:

  • Comprehensive understanding of grid connection procedures from COES (especially PR20).
  • Knowledge of power system studies, specially Pre-Operational Studies (EPO) and Operational Studies (EO)
  • Experience with protection and control schemes.

Advanced knowledge of Load Flow Analysis, Protection Coordination, and Power System Stability.

Other knowledge

  • Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish is a must.
  • Knowledge of software: MS Office, AutoCAD, DIgSILENT ATP, ETAP, PowerFactory (desirable) , PSCAD (desirable).
