Position Summary:
The Failure Analysis (FA) Laboratory Engineer is responsible for executing failure analysis activities on products and materials to identify root causes of failures and support product reliability improvements. This position reports to the Failure Analysis Laboratory Supervisor and is responsible for operating advanced analytical equipment, including CT scanners, SEM microscopes, and other laboratory instruments, to investigate defects and characterize failure mechanisms. The engineer performs safe product disassembly, interprets analytical results, maintains laboratory equipment and calibration, and ensures compliance with laboratory procedures and safety standards while supporting cross-functional teams in driving corrective actions and continuous improvement.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Follow test procedures carefully and completely
- Follow safety guidelines of the laboratory
- Handle logistics of defective product in and out of the laboratory
- Inspection of the product to evaluate conformance and non-conformance performance and analyze defects to understand the root cause
- Provide data from equipment in the optimal format for analysis
- Proper scrapping of the post-analysis product, following strictly the safety and environment guideline and regulation
- Perform other position related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Basic:
- Bachelor of Science in Chemical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university or equivalent (Bachelor's degree in Aerospace/Aeronautical, Mechanical, Materials, Metallurgical, Mechatronics or related to STEM major may also be considered with technical industry experience)
- Must be eligible to work in the United States
- Travel may be required up to 20 percent, the ideal candidate will be able to travel, with reasonable prior notice as required (domestic and/or international)
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, or holidays as required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Excellent organization, written and oral communication skills
- Ability to closely follow instructions accurately and completely
- Attention to detail and accurate data collection
- Demonstrated technical problem-solving ability
- Goal oriented self-starter
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Chemical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university or equivalent
- Experience in continuous improvement systems and lean manufacturing methodology and implementation
- Shainin Red X / Six Sigma Certification
- Extensive knowledge in Data Analytics utilizing MS Excel, MS Access or other database applications
- Good working knowledge of Google Suite software programs
- Lab experience with high safety standard
Working Conditions:
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to work around the potential exposure to dust and chemicals
- Ability to wear appropriate PPE as deemed essential for the job function
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- To safely perform the essential functions of the position you must be able to distinguish colors
- Ability to use all tools and equipment required for Cell Teardown and Module Teardown
