About this role

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be proficient in making high level mechanical repairs to all owned gas & diesel vehicles, including engine, transmission, differential, electrical, hydraulic system, brake system repairs, etc. 
  • Be able to complete technical repairs with minimal assistance.
  • Make all repairs following manufacturer guidelines and safety procedures.
  • Average 40-50 hours per week and on call as assigned.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Fleet Supervisor and Fleet Manager.
  • Assist fellow mechanics as needed.
  • Repair vehicles correctly in a quality and timely manner.
  • Be able to document vehicle repairs using our work order system, accurately accounting for all labor hours, and parts used.
  • Operate company vehicles in accordance with company policy and safe driving practices.
  • Respond professionally to changing Fleet and Operations departmental priorities.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area.
  • Take callouts and be placed in the on-call rotation.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a respectful working relationship with all Fleet and Operations personnel. Display professional conduct with outside suppliers and contacts.
  • Take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.
  • Adhere to Company and OSHA safety guidelines.
  • Identify and report all safety concerns to Fleet Supervision.
  • Adhere to Standard Utility Construction Fleet Policies, Procedures & Safety protocols.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver License in good standing throughout their employment.
  • Must follow all safe work practices.
  • Must have a comprehensive set of personal tools.
  • Have basic computer proficiency, good verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Some occasional travel may be required.
  • Must have good organizational skills, be able to meet strict deadlines and document issues and procedures.
  • Can work in a team atmosphere & learn new tasks.
  • Have excellent communication, time management skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work overtime as required.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing.
  • NDA/Non-compete agreement required. Based on the nature of work at Standard Utility. 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Diesel experience helpful
  • CDL License

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Shop environment but should be able to work outdoors in all types of weather at times. 
  • May be required to work long and unpredictable hours. 
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces. 
  • Must be able to move freely, including ability to stoop, crawl, and bend at the knees and waist.
  • Must be able to lift 75 pounds unassisted.
