Position Summary

A Histotechnician (HT) lead performs functions involved in preparing slides for various body tissues following surgery or autopsy for study by the pathologists. HT leads assist with problem solving procedure development and regulatory readiness. An HT must follow established laboratory standards, practices, and procedures. The HT understands and complies with the Standards of Behavior and department policies, procedures, and regulations.

Minimum Requirements


Education

  • High school graduate or equivalent

Experience

· 5+ years’ experience in anatomic pathology lab


License/Registration/Certifications

· Certification by an acceptable laboratory registry as a HT, preferably ASCP


Preferred Requirements

Preferred Education

· AS/BS in histology or related science field with completion of an approved technical training program or equivalent experience.

Preferred Experience

· 8+ years’ experience in anatomic pathology lab

· N/A

  • Performs functions involved in preparing slides for various body tissues following surgery or autopsy for study by the pathologists
  • Assists with problem solving, procedure development and regulatory readiness.
  • Performs special staining techniques
  • Must be able to provide and understand the specific communication, developmental and treatment needs of patients, families and visitors ranging in age from neonate-birth to geriatric.
  • Must be able to withstand the stress and demands of an active position while responding calmly and efficiently in crisis situations.
  • Perform instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Must be able to work as a team member, demonstrating good interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to communicate professionally with physicians, management, and staff.

· Must follow all standard operating procedures as written.

· Must complete competency and continuing education requirements.

· May be required to train new associates and students.
