Job Requirements

The Data Coordinator is responsible for verifying patient charges and entering additional charges into the computer daily. The Data Coordinator resolves billing problems. The Data Coordinator is responsible for verifying periop nursing record and statistical reports for the Operating Room and auditing their work each day. The Data Coordinator monitors work queues in the charging system for any errors. The Data Coordinator charges for OR supplies used in departments outside Surgery.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • High School Diploma
  • One-year technical school in computer training or equivalent experience in patient accounting position

Preferred Requirements

Preferred Education

  • CST Training or Associate Business Degree
  • Medical Terminology
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures and supplies

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Review the OR Nursing record for items to be charged. Make changes as necessary and process charges for billing.
  • Check account numbers on each patient for accuracy and notify the proper department if there are errors.
  • Audit previous day's charges for accuracy and make any corrections as needed.
  • Work with the OR Analyst to set up charge codes as needed for new devices. Notifies appropriate department when problems occur with a charge code.
  • Aids OR staff with documentation information.
  • Works with OR Manager/Director to retrieve operating room statistics and reports as necessary.
  • Must interact cooperatively with peers, other staff members, and administrative staff.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain working relationships with all internal and external customers of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System.
  • Must be able to respond calmly and efficiently in crisis situations.
  • Must communicate effectively.
  • Must be in good condition and able to withstand the stress and demand of an active position.
  • Must be able to withstand long hours of standing, walking, stooping, bending and sitting.
  • Manual dexterity, good hand/eye coordination and acceptable vision and hearing needed in daily work.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
