Job Description
SOS International LLC (SOSi) is seeking a Technical Writer III to support our team in Charleston, SC. This role sits within the Project Management Office (PMO) and provides documentation support across the program's tiered service delivery model - functional requirements, technical analysis, build/release documentation, and QA artifacts. The Technical Writer works directly with tier leads and subject matter experts to produce clear, conformant documentation; the Technical Writer does not independently determine functional or technical content and does not report to or take direction from any single operational tier.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Draft and maintain governance-required documentation across the program's service tiers, including Functional Requirements Documents, Technical Analysis Packages, Build Checklists, Release Notes, and QA/Code Review documentation, under the direction and sign-off authority of the responsible tier lead.
- Participate in functional and technical analysis sessions to gather requirements directly from tier leads, analysts, and subject matter experts, translating discussion into structured, conformant written artifacts.
- Ensure all documentation conforms to established program templates, naming conventions, and quality gate standards.
- Maintain consistency of style, terminology, and structure across documentation produced for different tiers and teams.
- Support Jira-based documentation workflows, including maintaining artifact linkage between tickets and their associated governance documents.
- Revise documentation through successive gate reviews based on feedback from team members and management.
- Manage documentation workload across multiple tiers concurrently and prioritize according to team deadlines and work cycles.
Qualifications
- Active Secret clearance.
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
- 4–6 years of experience as a Technical Writer, preferably supporting technical or IT service delivery documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to translate technical and functional discussion into structured written documentation without altering substantive content or decisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail and consistency.
- Ability to work independently on documentation production while deferring content authority and sign-off to the appropriate tier lead.
- Proficiency with standard documentation tools and version control practices.
- Familiarity with Jira or comparable structured ticketing/documentation workflows.
- Ability to manage documentation across multiple concurrent projects and meet gate-driven deadlines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in the government contracting industry.
- Experience supporting IT service delivery, software development lifecycle, or technical support documentation.
- Familiarity with Agile/Jira-based ticketing environments and structured intake-to-delivery workflows.
- Ability to create supporting visual aids such as process diagrams, workflow charts, and process maps.
Additional Information
Work Environment
- Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
- Onsite 5 days per week, 40 hours per week, at the designated government facility. Remote or hybrid work is not available for this role.
