Job Description

We're looking for a Director, Tax Operations to lead domestic and international tax projects, transfer pricing, and tax planning for the organization, reporting to the Sr Tax Director. In this role, you'll lead transfer pricing strategy and defense, drive tax structuring and diligence, and manage audit defense across federal, state, and foreign jurisdictions. You'll also drive tax modeling and planning initiatives, lead credits and incentives strategy, and partner closely with Accounting, Finance, Legal, and Treasury. This role suits an experienced tax leader who combines deep technical expertise across domestic and foreign tax matters — particularly in M&A, transfer pricing, and audit defense — with strong project-management and cross-functional influence. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead tax due diligence, structuring, and modeling for internal reorganization and M&A transactions, including purchase agreement review, entity structuring, integration planning, and post-close implementation.
  • Own the company's transfer pricing policy and defense, including intercompany agreements, benchmarking studies, contemporaneous documentation, and BEPS-related filings to support global compliance requirements.
  • Lead audit defense across federal, state, and foreign jurisdictions, including developing defense strategy, preparing responses to information requests, negotiating resolutions, and serving as the primary point of contact for tax authorities and outside counsel.
  • Serve as the organization's subject-matter expert on domestic and foreign tax technical matters, including analyzing and advising on the tax implications of international operations and structuring.
  • Lead tax planning and modeling, including scenario analysis of the company's effective tax rate, cash tax position, and the impact of legislative or structural changes.
  • Lead the company's credits and incentives strategy, including identifying, evaluating, and implementing opportunities such as R&D credits and other applicable federal, state, and foreign incentives.
  • Monitor global tax legislative and regulatory developments, including Pillar Two and other international tax reform, and assess and communicate their impact on the company.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams — including Accounting, Finance, Procurement, Legal, and Treasury — at all levels of the organization.
  • Manage relationships with external tax advisors and auditors across M&A, transfer pricing, and audit matters.
  • Maintain and strengthen SOX internal controls over tax planning, transfer pricing, and audit processes.
  • Drive process improvement and automation initiatives, leveraging tax technology to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Lead or contribute to ad hoc tax projects as priorities arise.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Tax, or a related field required; Master's in Taxation or J.D./LL.M. a plus.
  • CPA required.
  • 12+ years of relevant tax experience, ideally including time at a Big 4 accounting firm as well as significant in-house industry experience.
  • High-tech industry experience in California required.
  • Substantial hands-on experience leading M&A tax due diligence and structuring, from deal evaluation through post-close integration.
  • Deep, hands-on experience with transfer pricing strategy, documentation, and defense of intercompany positions under audit.
  • Proven track record managing and defending federal, state, and foreign tax audits and controversy matters, including direct interaction with tax authorities.
  • Deep technical knowledge of international tax law, transfer pricing principles, and U.S. federal and state income tax law.
  • Experience with SAP preferred.
  • Experience with OneSource tax software preferred.
  • Strong tax research skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues and clearly communicate conclusions and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-tax audiences and to executive stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
