The UAV Technician II serves as a key member of the manufacturing and testing team, building on the assembly and lower level technical skills with advanced troubleshooting, system expertise, and leadership responsibilities. This position is the first line of escalation for diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues with both UAV products and testing systems. The UAV Technician II acts as a critical liaison between assembly/technician teams and engineering, providing detailed feedback, technical expertise, and recommendations to ensure streamlined operations, product quality, and ongoing process improvements.
The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the UAV systems and processes, including avionics, mechanical components, software, and testing tools, while demonstrating problem-solving proficiency, excellent communication skills, and leadership qualities to assist and mentor other team members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other Duties not listed may be assigned.

Assembly and Integration Operations

Perform and oversee advanced hands-on assembly of UAV systems, including avionics, airframes, propulsion and communications systems, sensors, and payloads, following detailed SOPs and technical documentation.
Execute and ensure completion of advanced integration tasks, including firmware installation and system configuration/setup.
Assist and mentor junior team members in all aspects of UAV assembly and integration.

Troubleshooting, Testing, and Quality Assurance

Lead the troubleshooting of escalated technical issues with UAV sub-assemblies, flight control systems, and fully assembled aircraft.
Diagnose and resolve complex problems across electrical, mechanical, and software systems using tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, diagnostic software, and testing rigs.
Oversee functional testing of UAVs, sub-assemblies, and test systems to verify performance, reliability, and compliance with specifications.
Perform calibration, validate system performance, and document outcomes during debugging and testing phases.

Escalation Point for Complex Issues

Serve as the first escalation point for assembly or testing issues that require greater technical depth or a multidisciplinary approach.
Analyze, document, and clearly communicate detailed failure modes, observations, and potential solutions to engineers for product refinement or issue resolution.
Assist engineers with root cause analysis, system audits, and test plan execution when diagnosing recurring or systemic issues.

Communication and Liaison Role

Act as the direct go-between for assembly/technician teams and engineering, ensuring a seamless flow of technical information and feedback.
Document and communicate findings from testing and troubleshooting to assist engineering teams with product design updates, system enhancements, or technical documentation improvements.
Provide feedback to production and engineering teams to improve assembly processes, SOPs, and test systems, balancing quality with production efficiency..

Mentorship and Leadership

Assist in the training and mentoring of UAV Assemblers and Technician I team members, helping them develop greater technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
Verify and approve work completed by junior team members, ensuring quality and adherence to SOPs and company standards.
Foster a collaborative team environment by proactively addressing questions, sharing knowledge, and supporting team growth.

Continuous Improvement and Safety Compliance

Identify and implement opportunities for improving production, testing, and troubleshooting workflows to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety.
Ensure all work performed complies with the company’s safety, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
Assist in the upkeep of testing systems and equipment, ensuring functionality, calibration, and reliability.

QualificationsEducation and/or Experience

Basic to intermediate computer skills are necessary.
Prefer knowledge of drone technology.
High school diploma or equivalent required.

Must have good interpersonal skills with the ability to interface cooperatively with departmental team members and clients.
Needs strong safety and work ethic and be able to recognize the importance of properly handling hazardous materials, chemicals, toots, etc.

Working Conditions

Must be able to tolerate outside work environment. Must be physically fit to walk for extensive periods of time. Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, and handle small parts or tools for extended periods. Individuals may need to reach over shoulder heights; bend or stoop below the waist; preform repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movement; occasional lifting to 100 pounds (as team lift).
