Job Purpose

A Media Relations Manager in the Corporate Communications department at SMRT is responsible for managing the company's reputation, and ensuring timely, accurate, and consistent communication with the public. As a team member in the department, you will contribute to the development and execution of communication strategies. Your key responsibilities will include managing media relations and supporting other key initiatives. You will work closely with cross-functional teams within the company to identify opportunities in building goodwill and secure positive media coverage, thereby strengthening SMRT’s position as a leading public transport operator in Singapore. 

Responsibilities

  •    Develop communication strategies that support SMRT's corporate objectives and business priorities
    •    Develop and maintain strong relationships with mainstream media journalists, editors, and media outlets
    •    Organise media briefings, relevant stakeholder engagement sessions, press conferences and prepare spokespersons 
    •    Draft and distribute media releases, statements, service-related announcements 
    •    Identify opportunities for good content and facilitate staff interviews with media 
    •    Manage the media inbox and prepare responses to media queries 
    •    Monitor online sentiments and respond promptly during an incident or during emergencies (24/7) 
    •    Monitor media coverage and analyse the effectiveness of communication strategies, providing insights and recommendations for improvement

Qualifications & Work Experience

  •    Diploma / Degree in Mass Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or relevant discipline
    •    At least 5 years of experience in corporate communications, media relations, or public relations
    •    Experience in handling media relations, writing press releases, managing communications strategies and media events 

Skills

•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure to manage multiple priorities 
•    Strong organisational and interpersonal skills to manage different stakeholders, events and projects 
•    Strategic thinking ability to anticipate reputational risks in a regulated and dynamic environment
•    Experience handling crisis communications and respond to media queries promptly
