Job Purpose

We are seeking an experienced Accountant/Snr. Accountant, General Ledger/Fixed Assets to oversee the General Ledger and Fixed Assets function, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, effective financial controls, and compliance with accounting policies and statutory requirements. The role focuses on reviewing financial close activities, Fixed Assets governance, providing guidance to non-executive Finance staff, and driving continuous improvement in finance processes and controls.

This role is responsible for overseeing daily GL and Fixed Assets activities, reviewing financial reporting and reconciliations, supporting statutory, audit and tax requirements, and partnering with internal stakeholders to resolve accounting matters. The role will also handle selected complex accounting matters and contribute to process improvements and operational excellence across the Finance function.

Responsibilities

  • Review and oversee the day-to-day GL and Fixed Assets activities performed by non-executive staff, ensuring transactions are accurately and timely recorded in accordance with accounting policies and procedures.
  • Guide and provide support to non-executive staff on GL, month-end closing, account reconciliation and Fixed Assets matters, including reviewing their work and addressing accounting issues where required.
  • Review the monthly financial closing, including journal entries, accruals, prepayments, provisions, reclassifications and other accounting adjustments, and ensure that significant or unusual items are appropriately supported.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules, follow up on outstanding and unusual items, and ensure timely resolution of reconciling differences.
  • Review and oversee Fixed Assets activities, including additions, disposals, transfers, depreciation, capitalisation and impairment, and ensure the Fixed Asset Register is properly maintained and reconciled to the General Ledger.
  • Review the monthly financial reports and schedules, including balance sheet, income statement and relevant management reporting, and ensure accuracy and completeness before submission to the Finance Manager.
  • Perform selected hands-on accounting activities where necessary, particularly for complex transactions, unusual accounting matters, month-end adjustments and matters requiring higher-level accounting judgement.
  • Review accounting treatment for new or complex transactions and provide appropriate recommendations in accordance with accounting standards and Group accounting policies.
  • Support and coordinate year-end audit and tax activities, including reviewing audit schedules, addressing queries from External/Internal auditors and tax agents, and ensuring timely and accurate submission of supporting documents and information.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and related disclosures including XBRL filing, in accordance with applicable accounting standards and Group accounting policies.
  • Monitor compliance with internal controls, financial policies, accounting procedures and statutory requirements, and highlight any control gaps or areas requiring improvement.
  • Guide the team in resolving long-outstanding balances, unreconciled items, unusual movements and accounting discrepancies, escalating significant matters to the Finance Manager where appropriate.
  • Participate in the implementation and enhancement of accounting processes, system changes and new financial workflows, including reviewing requirements, testing and providing feedback from the Finance perspective.
  • Identify and drive process improvement and Kaizen initiatives within the GL and Fixed Assets functions to improve efficiency, accuracy and internal controls.
  • Work closely with AP, AR, FP&A, HR, Group Finance, Business Units and other stakeholders to resolve accounting and financial reporting matters.
  • Provide guidance and knowledge sharing to junior/non-executive Finance staff and support their development in GL and Fixed Assets accounting.
  • Perform other ad hoc duties and finance-related projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Work Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant professional qualification such as ACCA, CA, or CPA would be an advantage. 
  • Relevant experience in General Ledger and/or Fixed Assets accounting, preferably with experience in month-end closing and financial reporting.

Skills

  • Good knowledge of SFRS and accounting principles.
  • Experience with SAP and Microsoft Excel is preferred.
  • Experience in XBRL filing, external/internal audit and tax matters would be an advantage.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills, with good attention to detail.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to review and guide junior/non-executive staff.
