Smith Industries and SI Utility are looking for a Welding Testing / Program Coordinator to own and run our Welder Development Program across both companies.

You will be the designated Weld Test Coordinator for the organization: scheduling and overseeing welder qualification tests, evaluating coupons, maintaining welder qualification records, and keeping both entities in full compliance with applicable welding codes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and oversee all welder qualification testing — from reviewing the WPS with the welder before the arc strikes, through visual examination, bend testing, and RT coordination, to the final pass/fail determination
  • Maintain complete, audit-ready welder records in our welding software: qualifications, continuity windows, requalifications, and cross-training across both companies
  • Monitor welder continuity limits and initiate requalification testing before qualifications lapse
  • Support welding consumable procurement — verifying filler metal classifications against WPS requirements and keeping certifications on file
  • Track weld repair and rejection rates, report trends, and help drive root cause analysis and targeted retraining
  • Contribute data and insight to our Cost of Quality program

Qualifications
  • 3+ years in welding quality, inspection, or a closely related field in an industrial or fabrication environment
  • Working knowledge of ASME Section IX and AWS D1.1 qualification requirements
  • A recognized welding inspection credential (e.g., AWS CWI)
  • Fluency reading and interpreting WPS, PQR, and WPQ documents
  • Demonstrated ability to perform visual weld examination to code acceptance criteria
  • Experience with welding software or qualification tracking systems
  • Sharp organizational skills and meticulous documentation habits
  • Clear communication — you'll work daily with Production, HR, QC, and NDE
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to stand/walk for up to 90% of the workday
• Sit to perform office duties for up to 50% of the workday
• Occasional bending, squatting, and ascending ladders/stairways
