Key Responsibilities
• Assure the quality of all materials, structures, and components of pressure vessels and tanks throughout the production process
• Verify that all vessels, tanks, and product lines comply with ASME, API, and all relevant quality standards and regulations
• Perform independent checks, inspections, and measurements on materials, parts, and finished products
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
• Recognize and evaluate weld discontinuities, areas of improvement, and other product weaknesses
• Maintain and document all QC inspections and findings on travelers and QC Inspection sheets
• Ensure all material received on the shop floor is properly marked with heat numbers and Smith identifying numbers
• Assist in defining and implementing a QA/QC program that meets the full scope of regulatory requirements
• Assist the QA/QC Inspector Supervisor with organization of training courses and clerical projects
• Assist in preparing, tracking, maintaining, and distributing quality reports, logs, records, and databases
• Support implementation and maintenance of the Quality Management System
• Update and ensure compliance with the material control spreadsheet
• Manage records and data entry within electronic document systems
• Work with Production Supervisors, Safety Manager, and QC Inspectors on administrative duties and document preparation as assigned
• Handle evolving project needs efficiently in a fast-paced job shop environment
• Monitor, qualify, and assist in training employees on applicable standards, procedures, and work instructions (ASME, API, and others)
Qualifications
• Knowledge of ASME and API standards for pressure vessels and tanks required
• Certifications in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) required
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in PC-based data entry and electronic document management systems
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with foremen, supervisors, and administrative staff
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule in a fast-paced fabrication environment
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
Physical Requirements
• Must be able to stand/walk for up to 90% of the workday
• Sit to perform office duties for up to 50% of the workday
• Occasional bending, squatting, and ascending ladders/stairways
