Job Purpose

SLR is looking for an experienced senior Geospatial analyst to join their evolving Geospatial & Data Solutions team. The role, based in our Cape Town office, will offer an opportunity to be involved in shaping and growing SLR’s digital ambitions alongside your personal development as part of a busy and collaborative team working across the Middle East and Africa.

SLR’s Geospatial & Data Solutions team provides expert support and advice on geospatial data analysis and developing bespoke digital tools. They work on multidisciplinary projects alongside other practices as well as standalone GIS projects for a range of external clients. Projects are primarily located throughout the Middle East and Africa but with opportunities for collaboration with similar teams in other parts of the world. Projects are interesting, challenging and varied and our clients come from a range of sectors including Renewable Energy, Oil and Gas, Mining & Minerals, Industry and Infrastructure.

The successful candidate will join a Geospatial & Data Solutions team which has a large footprint in the region and have the opportunity to help influence its direction, contributing to best practices, new initiatives, and collaboration across the business.

Qualifications & experience

  • Bachelor’s degree qualification in GIS, Geography or a related field

  • SAGC registration will be an advantage

  • 5-10 years' experience in a consulting environment

  • Strong knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS stack including Enterprise

  • Excellent understanding of global coordinate systems and projections

  • Highly experienced in database management

  • Experience of leading and delivering GIS projects

  • Web application experience in AGOL environments

  • Experience with automation, programming languages and software development (Python, R, SQL, HTML, Javascript etc.).

Desirable

  • Understanding of other GIS software packages and open-source platforms such as QGIS, Global Mapper, PostgreSQL, PostGIS etc.

  • Working knowledge of Databricks.

  • Experience of applying geospatial and data solutions in the environmental management and sustainability sector.

  • Experience with ESRI’s ArcGIS Enterprise platform.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Geospatial Analyst your role will be to provide and lead technical geospatial and data support to SLR’s wide variety of Practices. The role will include:

  • Supporting Practice Lead in delivering geospatial and data solutions in a multi-disciplinary environment.

  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency in:

    • GIS tools and platforms, including ESRI ArcGIS and QGIS.

    • ESRI’s mobile/field data collection tools, Survey123 and FieldMaps. Knowledge of other digital field collection tools (e.g., KoboToolbox) based on similar platforms could be considered adequate.

    • Designing, configuring and managing interactive web applications and dashboards for project delivery and in-house business intelligence within the ArcGIS Online environment. ArcGIS Online knowledge should include web apps, Experience Builder, Notebooks, Story Maps, Dashboards.

  • Tailored GIS Solutions: Designing and deploying scalable GIS strategies that reflect regional variations and meet international project specifications.

  • Capturing and analysing data from multiple sources, ensuring adherence to high data standards.

  • Development and bug fixing of data pipelines, including from external sources via mechanisms like APIs.

  • Liaising with project managers to ensure projects are effectively resourced and kept within budget.

  • Engaging with internal stakeholders across the business to identify opportunities to diversify the work portfolio, increase profit margins, and design innovative solutions.

  • Supporting the production of draft proposals for small to medium-sized projects, including adding technical inputs to larger bids.

  • Adhering to QA processes and standards for data management and drawing outputs for yourself and junior team members.

  • Building and demonstrating an awareness of the regional business strategy and engaging with cross-selling opportunities within the business.

  • Contributing to the smooth operation of the Geospatial team through active participation in team resource calls, supervision systems, and knowledge sharing.

  • Working with the team to deliver projects to tight deadlines.

  • Proactively engaging with the community and embracing the SLR ‘One Team’ culture.
