We’re growing our Brisbane Hydrogeology and Hydrology (H&H) team and are seeking a Junior level Surface Water Engineer to support a strong pipeline of work across mining, infrastructure, government, and the built environment. We are looking for an engineer with a minimum of two years professional consultancy experience in Surface Water engineering. This role is suited to someone who has moved beyond graduate level and is looking to further develop their technical and consulting skills within a support and highly experienced team.
You’ll join one of SLR Australia’s largest disciplines, working alongside more than 65 hydrology and hydrogeology specialists across Brisbane, Townsville, Newcastle, Wollongong, Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth. The team combines technical excellence with a collaborative and supportive culture, delivering complex water management solutions for clients throughout Australia.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a diverse range of projects, including flood studies, hydraulic modelling, water balance assessments, environmental approvals, and water infrastructure projects. You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary teams, build strong client relationships, and play a key role in project delivery and business growth.
Responsibilities
This role will provide you with the opportunity to work alongside industry leaders across the region and provide you with the support on your technical growth within the wider SLR team.
The role would suit someone who is just as comfortable in the field collecting data, as they are in our modern riverside Eagle Street CBD office collaborating with 150+ industry leading environmental scientists and engineers. The role provides the opportunity to be remunerated for work away from home through time in lieu and/or overtime pay.
As a self-starter, you develop your career assisting with project management, tenders/proposals preparation, on site and in fieldwork programs, data analysis and interpretation, and reporting.

Experience
To be successful in your application, you will bring a minimum of two years' experience working within an environmental, engineering, or related consultancy environment. You will have developed a solid foundation in project delivery, technical analysis, and client-focused consulting, and be ready to take the next step in your career as part of a growing national team. We are looking for the following:
Degree qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering, specialising in Surface Water
Consultancy experience with at least 2 years' experience delivering engineering or environmental projects within a consulting environment.
Problem-solving skills with the ability to analyse and interpret complex situations and develop practical, effective solutions.
Surface Water exposure across areas such as flooding, hydrology, hydraulics, water balances, and water management.
Modelling capability using tools such as WBNM, RORB, URBS, TUFLOW, Goldsim, MUSIC, or similar.
Geospatial skills including experience using QGIS, AutoCAD, or equivalent industry-standard software.
Data analysis capability including strong Excel skills. Experience with Python, R, or Visual Basic will be highly regarded.
